Re: Keen YouTube Videos

Wow, that's really good, TheBigV! That was entertaining -- I actually felt tension in some moments. It must've taken a while, I know I attempted this level at least 20 times, and that was on Normal without saving too. I also attempted to get all the points and drops, though, including the hidden dou...

Re: Misconceptions

Remember that cliff in Fribbulus Xax where you need a grappling hook to get on top? For a long time, I thought that was a fence! Apparently I never stopped to think how Keen can get back "over the fence" when the grappling hook only seems to be one side. Glad I could contribute to this dis...

Re: Welcome to the migrated PCKF!

Yeah, I've been noticing them too lately. They never seem to go away. It's strange. Just what could they be doing here?

Re: Keen 4 Most Favorite Level?

It was a bit difficult for me to decide, although it's not as bad as deciding on least favorite levels. Every level in Keen 4 (and all Keen games) is really good, and my favorites (and least favorites) might change next time I replay Keen 4. For now, though, I went with: Chasm of Chills, Pyramid of ...

Re: Keen 4 Least Favorite Level?

I replayed all the levels of Keen 4 in normal difficulty not too long ago and even then it was still hard for me to decide. The thing is that all the levels in Keen 4 (and the entire series, I'd say) are very well designed, hold many fond memories, and I like the variety and how they have a lot of s...

East vs. West: Interview with Keiji Inafune and Hiroyuki Kobayashi

I found a neat interview with a couple Japanese game producers, who explain the differences between their country's games and Western games and why they think that's the case. While it seems to more centered around modern games, I think a lot of it applies to older games like Mario vs. Keen. Check i...

Re: Foray in the Forest (development thread)

Thanks for the clarification, Nisaba! Now I understand! This looks like it'll be quite fun! I know it was always going to be more than a simple levelpack, but I didn't expect it to reach this far in non-level alterations. Or was it always intended to go that far? Though, I agree that projects tend t...

Re: 10 years on

Keen will forever be one of my favorite game franchises and it's only fitting that it has such a splendid fanbase full of talent. I totally agree with you there! Of all the fanbases I've seen, the Commander Keen fanbase produces some of the highest quality homemade stuff ever! The mods alone genera...

Re: 10 years on

First memory I ever have of the PCKF is when I looked at a topic for Battle of the Brains, back when it was still in development. That mod was released in early 2011, so that would mean I've been around the PCKF for over 10 years now, even if I didn't create an account until 2015. Can't believe I ha...

Re: Modded Music that goes well with a Commander Keen game

There's a MIDI version of the Eagles' Witchy Woman that sounds very Keenish, especially at the electric guitar segments. I'd love to hear that in a Keen mod. :)

Re: Recreated Keen 4-6 Source Code

This is so neat! Definitely deserves a Keen Awards 2021 nomination! I'm amazed that someone was able to make a perfect recreation, byte-by-byte, of the Galaxy Keens! I'll definitely have to play around with this someday! I'm positive that this will lead to some amazing mods! This could finally be th...

Re: Vinyl Goddess from Mars custom level pack (with a remake of Commander Keen 4 level)

I immediately recognized the Keen 4 level in the last screenshot! That's a cool idea -- recreating a level from one game in a totally different game. Reminds me of when I recreated a few Mario levels and even a Zool level in an old Keen 1 levelpack.

Re: Keen 3 in Galaxy style

Now that we have source code recreations of Keens 4-6 available, a Galaxy recreation of Keen 3 might actually be more feasible than before! You have such great artwork that it would be a shame if your idea never became an actual mod, whether it was programmed by you or someone else. By the way, abou...

This is how I pronounce those names: Shi-KAH-Dee Ah-TROCKS-See-In Kro-DAY-Shun For a long time, though, I used to pronounce Krodacian as "Kro-DAH-She-In". I learned the proper pronunciation from this old Keen: Modding topic . I always pronounce Vorticon and Narln as "Vor-TUH-Kin"...

Re: Keen Creator Explains Story Behind Princess Lindsey and Berkeloid in Keen 4

Neat little article, even if the info has been known for years as proYorp pointed out. Nice to see a gaming site acknowledge Commander Keen at least. A fact that very few people may actually know is that Princess Lindsey is supposed to be Hispanic based on her namesake's last name, according to an o...
