Both games are created with a very old software designed to work on 16 or 32 bit Windows 95,98 or XP. It's a miracle that you've managed to even run those games on 11 as it's 64 bit. I would suggest trying to setup a virtual machine that runs windows 98 and install the games in that environment.

Actually, the very statement that most people prefer hard difficulty is wrong. Perhaps the most vocal/active and invested players do prefer hard. But they are not the majority. Most play on easy and medium, but they don't mention that or generally don't engage in conversations.
