Re: Just some feedback & thoughts from one user

I have & can now complete Keen 4-6 without saving once in CGenius. I have also played CGenius with a friend in multiplayer, in Keen 4 with him being inexperienced with older platforming games such as the Commander Keen series. Here are some of my newer found personal experience with those games ...

Re: Just some feedback & thoughts from one user

Good points / analysis regarding the checkpoints by door Quillax; some levels like the last level of Keen 6 have all the gem doors stacked by the very end of the level which could be a huge flaw in this case. In a scenario with a supposed checkpoint by opening locked doors setting, maybe levels such...

Thanks, glad you like the Tilesets.

I never thought about the Keen games having a Looney Tunes vibe (I watched those cartoons in my childhood on Cartoon Network), but I suppose a richer color palette can enhance the cartoony vibes in the Tilesets :)

For the users here wanting to see a big compilation of how the Keen 4-6 tilemap updates look compared to the original graphics, here are some before & after pictures: Commander Keen 4 https://i.imgur.com/1HWidUp.png https://i.imgur.com/M0gFHdK.png https://i.imgur.com/tdFtqvO.png https://i.imgur....

Re: Original tilesets for Keen 1-6, so that users can modify (custom recolored VGA tilesets for Keen 4-6 avaiable here)

Sorry to keep you waiting, I've done a bit experimenting with the blue skies now. https://i.imgur.com/ycvOjjd.png I haven't applied dithering to the skies, but I instead used a few more blue colors just to see how it looks. I haven't as of yet done anything more with the turquoise colors on the floo...

Re: Original tilesets for Keen 1-6, so that users can modify (custom recolored VGA tilesets for Keen 4-6 avaiable here)

Thanks for feedback, I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong here. I'll try to change the sky up, maybe the same way as I did with some of the world map in Keen 5 (blend the dithering with an online tool to make it a smooth 32bit blue gradient, then import it in Aseprite and then make Aseprite re...

Re: Original tilesets for Keen 1-6, so that users can modify (custom recolored VGA tilesets for Keen 4-6 avaiable here)

I have now done major updates to my Keen 6 tilemaps, now with an improved color palette. Fixed most of the remaining dithering, including world map (some improvements there as well). The red ground texture has its original brightness now, as I now have added more red colors in my palette to compensa...

Re: Original tilesets for Keen 1-6, so that users can modify (custom recolored VGA tilesets for Keen 4-6 avaiable here)

I learned something new regarding the VGA color palette (at lest news for me), which gives me an opportunity to remove the last of the dithering in Keen 6 once I modify the standard VGA palette I'm currently using in Aseprite: http://www.shikadi.net/moddingwiki/VGA_Palette I was naive and thought th...

Re: Having issues extracting the bitmaps from Keen 4 Ultimate

Thanks; that actually worked. The file structure for the extracted files are a bit different from what ModKeen produces, but this tool sure has some nice features. I can play and have some fun with this tool as well. I agree that it could be easier is CGenius had the ability to extract the graphics ...

Having issues extracting the bitmaps from Keen 4 Ultimate

I have more recently extracted the bitmaps from Keen 1-6 (I redid the graphics in Keen 4-6 for Commander Genius in a MS-DOS VGA 256 color palette as seen here ), but I'm now having issues trying to extract the bitmaps from the mod Keen 4 Ultimate, using ModKeen in DOSBox . I had no issues extracting...

Re: Original tilesets for Keen 1-6, so that users can modify each original tile for each game

Just a small work-in-progress update regarding the ship world map in Keen 5 https://i.imgur.com/HWNFPz5.png The small cylinders on both sides may look a bit off compared to the rest of the ship that uses dithering, but overall the process of making the whole ship world map in 256 VGA recoloring is m...
