The crashes are most likely caused by an error in the patch file. It wouldn't be the first time this happened. Keen has to be running when you press the jump key. If you run towards the edge and start jumping as you get close to the edge, you should be fine. I checked out the old Windows 3.x Paintbrush, but it doesn't seem to have a dithering pallette like the image I posted above - it just dithers when you use the spraypaint tool, but it gets to the "fully saturated" dither very quickly... I think you had to edit the colors in the palette in Paintbrus...
