Re: Keen Dreams somehow makes it to Nintendo Switch

Does anyone know how the rights came to be under Hard Disk Publishing or whoever it is that does now have them? I'm assuming just a chain of acquisitions from Softdisk after they closed up shop? All I know is that in 2014 an individual named Javier M. Chavez bought the rights to Keen Dreams from Fl...

Re: Commander Keen 6: Aliens Ate My Babysitter! - version 1.6 (unofficial mod patch)

Some nitpicking: You changed the spelling of the game's title from "Baby Sitter" to "Babysitter", but you didn't change it on the title screen. If you want to change that, too, you can use the title screen from my "Aliens Ate My Little Sister" fangame as a basis for moving the text around: http://ww...

Re: Keen 6 fixing bugs

Thanks for the info. The way I see it, the only way to avoid this "bug" is to design the levels in a way that makes it impossible for a Blorb to move to an area that has a bridge that can be toggled by a switch.

Re: Keen 6 fixing bugs

I want to ask whether it is possible to fix the "Rhetorical Question", the "Eye am stuck", the "Blorb stuck in a platform" and the "A nose for trouble" bugs for example: http://www.shikadi.net/keenwiki/Keen_6_Bugs Does anyone know what the word "platform" in "Blorb stuck in a platform" actually mea...

Re: Joystick and Gravis Gamepad

Wow, it's impressive! (Since I don't have joystick and gamepad.) Wanna thank you for the screenshots and the configuration steps! Well, as long as you're using DOSBox, you should be able to map the joystick inputs to keys on your keyboard by using DOSBox's keymapper (CTRL+F1), allowing you to emula...

Re: Jill Of The Jungle 4

However only one thing that really annoyed me is that it constantly consumes full power of a CPU core, and fan on my laptop is running constantly because of that. It would be great if it could be fixed somehow. I added some code to reduce the CPU usage in version 1.1 (basically skips drawing when t...

Re: Joystick and Gravis Gamepad

It doesn't matter which joystick number you slect, the calibration will always ask you to move the stick in the upper left and press button #1, then move the stick to the bottom right and press button #2. That's the standard joystick calibration routine that has been used in nearly all of Carmack's ...

Re: Joystick and Gravis Gamepad

I guess it depends on which version of the game you're using. The shots above were taken in Keen 5 v1.4, and that game lists these options at the bottom of the "configure" menu: use keyboard use joystick #1 use joystick #2 use gravis gamepad Other games might handle this differently. For example, Bi...

Re: Joystick and Gravis Gamepad

This is what the Gravis Gameport option looks like:

And this is the regular Joystick #1/#2 option:

So it looks like the answer is yes.

Re: Jill Of The Jungle 4

But anyway, I'm quite excited to see K1n9_Duk3's level editor for Jill, either from technical point of view, and to see whether I could have made it the same or even better quality. Well, you can finally check it out here . I'm pretty sure you could come up with a better user interface. Since the t...

Re: Is Commander Keen music weak?

You can't really compare IMF music to MIDI music unless the MIDI music is played back in AdLib mode. The main reason for MIDI music sounding better on some soundcards is that the later SoundBlaster-compatible sound cards used OPL3 or dual OPL2 chips chips to perform the FM synthesis. That basically ...

Re: Sunstriker Mods "Fireblaze: Curse of the Dragonlords"

To be fair, "shareware" is a term that most people don't get to read all that much these days and probably would have to look up elsewhere. Even my computer science teacher didn't know the difference between "shareware" and "public domain", and that was back around 2003 or something like that. As lo...

Re: Level Viewer for KEEN VORTICONS and GALAXY (and more...)

I'd like to ask for tool support, in order to extract the Suburb Shenanigans' level images. The problem seems to be that you have an "unknown" version of KEEN5E.EXE in your folder. Sprite display is only supported for "known" versions or games that provide their own sprite definitions in a SPRITES....

Re: Level editor programming

Yeah, speaking of level editors for Jill of the Jungle: I decided to write one after my initial post about how Jill wouldn't be the best choice for somebody's very first level editor. It's currently in (closed) beta testing. I thought I should mention that before somebody else starts wasting time on...
