In Keen Vorticons it was a side effect of how the code worked. It is definitely a feature in Keen 4-6, there is extra code for the added pogo height on the first bounce.

Your Keen Dreams project has several issues: 1. You created an EGAHEAD file with 3-byte entries, but the code expects 4-byte entries. The game will not be able to load any of the graphics correctly.
