Re: Is Keen boring now?

@Ceilick: Your 'tile-world-weariness' never shows in your works, however. Also, you're one with one of the largest modding body of work. Why? If you feel that strongly about the very fabric of that world, why did you keep at the craft? I'm very glad you did and I feel it was all very much worth the...

Re: Is Keen boring now?

This sounds a lot like saying there's a ceiling to literature due to a limited number of characters in a language's writing system. And music boils down to a small set of repeating notes, so even the most creative song is never truly unique. Yeah, exactly this, but where its hard to wrap my head ar...

Re: Is Keen boring now?

By the way, are you describing something that you understood when learning modding or was it an earlier disillusioning, disappointing realization from childhood? (This world is made of squares! >: It's finite and stored electronically! :x) I don't think I saw the tilesets until I first started modd...

Re: Is Keen boring now?

I think for myself the biggest loss in "the magic" was after learning how the levels were made with tiles. Somehow this placed a huge limiting factor on what I felt I could expect to see and experience in these games. There was no longer a sense that I could explore and find anything. I could explor...

Re: Sign of the Vool

Thanks Tormentor, if my current leads don't pan out I'll follow you up on that suggestion. Progress has been a little slow, I haven't had a lot of time and most of it has been put toward fixing issues with graphics and tiles. A lot of what I had designed years ago has significant flaws and missing p...

Re: Sign of the Vool

I'll try to post an update which will reintroduce the mod this weekend. Until then, is anyone interested in composing music for this project? Most of the composers I've worked with in the past have since left our community (although if any of them are reading, I'd love the opportunity to work togeth...

Re: Sign of the Vool

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys! Since this is an older project being resumed, and things have changed a bit over time, would it be desirable to start a new thread for this mod? I've made some progress since my previous announcement, despite only having a few days a week to work. I've got the first t...

Re: FortKeen: Battle Royale

As usual, Roobar makes the best Keen games that don't exist.

Re: Sign of the Vool

Now that it is no longer April Fools, I'd like to announce I'm resuming development for Sign of the Vool! :O I know I've had a number of false starts the last few years, but this is going to be the final push. I've finished a number of other personal projects recently and this taking top priority. R...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)

I'm on mobile so can't pull up some images on Sunnyland levels to illustrate what I mean, but I definitely don't want to be understood as advocating significant complexity (if Keenrush is responding to my suggestion). Take a look at Slug Village or the Perilous Pit . Both these levels have great use...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)

Just finished, I really enjoyed playing! The story, while simple, has such great, keenish humor in it, great job! I'll echo others who have praised the sunken fort; what a unique take on a water level, really great. I really struggled to find the yellow gem so that I could get to the secret level! I...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)

Woo started playing, I'm 5 levels in, more tomorrow. I really like humor in the story and the in-game messages (lol the wetsuit). I really like that you demonstrate mastery with how to use the tiles to create scenes, and I really appreciate how often you use slopes and ledges to break up the movemen...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)

Hopefully I'll get to try this in a few days/by the end of the week. Before I design a level, my mind develops an image (and sometimes short clips) of what the theme and basic structure of the level would be. Most of the levels in the mod use inspiration from the original Keen games and even some mo...
