Re: Crystal Caves for NES

There was a bug that made it impossible to beat levels beyond level 8, this has been fixed in Beta 3.

Double-post to let people know that I've updated the download link in the first post. This should fix the passwords, so games can be continued--even into future versions. It also fixes the map bug Roobar found.

I think that's not a bug, but rather a limitation of NES itself. You can't expect much from decades old console. A bug, for example, is if you try to jump out of the world map on the top right. You'll get stuck in there. Quite right. It's like trying to fit a house-full of stuff into a studio apart...

(Sorry about the NTSC filter.)

A totally unauthorized recreation by me. It should be playable from start to finish, but the final scene and some music and sounds are missing.

Keen 1-3 level editing in Tiled [Beta]

Install a recent daily build of Tiled if you don't already have one. (The stable version has some bugs that prevent this plugin from working.) Then go to https://github.com/DrKylstein/tiled-vorticons and click the download zip option, then extract the files directly to wherever Tiled keeps its pytho...

Version 28 works. I think maybe the data folder was misnamed before?

Amazing work! It feels a little "real = brown" compared to the bright colors of the original, but it's beautiful in its own way. The movement feels perfectly familiar.

Linux version fails and prints "There is no data folder" to the console. Ubuntu 12.04LTs 64bit. I extracted everything in the tar to a folder and ran the *.x86.

I was cured of #5 just now. Even knowing what it is, it's still hard to see as a pit.

Dr. Kylstein - the version you released seem to be a bit older one. Title screen doesn't seem to show (at least on my comp) - and also Martinez is in his old colors... Sorry, I accidentally included my settings file and forgot to update the graphics. I've fixed the upload, but you may need to delet...

Would it be simple for you to release a Linux build? The Web Player doesn't work here.

Here's the last version. I've included the source if anybody wants to look at that. I still feel like I should add map selection and finish the powerups, but it's hard to keep interest. I don't play the game myself except to make sure it doesn't crash. (p.s.: Memory hasn't been that of big of deal. ...

I've been a fan of Datassette for some years, downloading all the tracks I could get from his old website. He does a variety of 80's-influenced instrumental synth music. His latest release is People Without Mouths, and I mostly bought it for this track: Datassette - Power Ballad (album link in video...

Mode X's vary in their resolution, but they all use the same interlaced memory layout. For developers at the time, they had three options: 1. use the EGA modes and get hardware scrolling, split screen, fast vram to vram copies, and more. 2. use mode 13h which can't do any of that, but has 256 colors...
