Re: Are mods better than the official games?

The better Keen Vorticon mods are WAY better than Keens 1-3 in every aspect. It's been a while since I played any. What are your favourites that you'd recommend? On one hand, I've seen more creative level designs in mods than the originals, and better soundtracks (the original tracks are decent, bu...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

I think I like the smooth scrolling of the VGA remake, but prefer the original palette.

Neat site. I wonder how many visitors it gets?
Definitely gives off the late 1990s Geocities vibes...

Although you say "he", but "koshka" means "female cat"...

Re: Omnispeak v1.1

Thanks a lot for that detailed answer, Multimania. The biggest differences are for modding: Omnispeak gets you the advantages of being able to use more modern development tools (modern compilers, debuggers, etc), and lets you avoid all of the memory restrictions the original DOS version had, at the ...

Re: Omnispeak v1.1

So, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what are the pros and cons of using Omnispeak vs K1n9_Duk3's Recreated Keen 4–6 Source Code ? I can't say for sure, but I suspect that Commander Genius is still more commonly used for playing Keen games; Obviously for the Android platform, but ...

Re: Awesome (but niche) Revalation

I think you're right. I'll bet a lot of people played the games long before they saw the movie, though (it was rated R, yeah?). Was true for me, anyway.

It does foreshadow id software's later shift into making only "serious", "adult" 3D shooter games, though.

Re: Keen Meets the Meats (really!)

Well, I finished it. It really is an excellent mod, now that the more serious bugs have been fixed (though I found some more that hopefully can be fixed one day - see below). The level designs felt pretty fair (despite the difficulties associated with Keen not being able to look up/down in the Dream...

Re: The Great Galaxy-Mod Bug Hunt 2020

gonna upload those fixed version to the wiki at some point. Been a while. :) Anybody mind if I do it? It would save people some frustration. It can look in the info-box like it currently does for Keen Meets the Meats or Ruin of Roib - "newest (unofficial bug fixed)" - that way, it is clea...

Re: Re:

I don't know if it's on Keenwiki or not, but K1n9_Duk3 created an unofficial update that fixes all the crashing issues as well as a few other things. Here's a link to the thread that has this version: https://pckf.com/viewtopic.php?p=95423&hilit=unofficial+bug+hunt+2020#p95423 Thanks! I hadn't ...

Re:

Riiiight. One would think that at least the first level is well playtested. The next crash is here: http://i.imgur.com/4F9GaOB.png I think I downloaded the newest version from the wiki, but I'm still getting this bug. Also, it doesn't seem possible to play this on Easy mode, because when I load a s...

Re: How were DOS games' graphics made?

Ok, here's my guide. I hope it helps someone! Originally sent to Nisaba on PCKF in a PM on Fri May 10, 2019 3:14, and edited in 2023. I may add this to the Keenwiki or Moddingwiki if it seems useful and there are no major problems. One major thing I'm unsure about is how transparency works for Keen ...

Re: How were DOS games' graphics made?

I posted here about my experience with Deluxe Paint Animation to recreate the authentic look of the artwork from back then. However, since then I've found that using mtpaint with a custom configuration is faster, and with less hassle. I think I've only sent my instructions for that to Nisaba in 2019...

Re: I'm Ilsoap (Screenhog). Hi everyone. It's been a while. I need help with a dll file.

Welcome back, Ilsoap! Your stuff was fantastic! I, too, usually go by another nickname these days, but I keep my old one here. For anyone not familiar, there's an archive of a lot of Ilsoap's Keen-related art and animations over at the PCKF Archive (though to play the Shadowlands .swf files, these d...

Re: Suburb Shenanigans

Fantastic! Thanks for clearing that up. I will update the wiki accordingly when I find the time. Already done. :) Also, I started playing this mod a bit and find it so far impressive but a bit of a mixed bag. Keen's house and shack were pretty neat. I was getting low on ammo often until I realized ...
