Re: Atroxian Realm (Version 1.1 Released)

Glad to hear the the new version is mostly working out for people. The keygem/zip pad puzzle in Cargo Transit A was slightly modified in this version since the old version basically resulted in you getting both keygems in the same attempt (at least on my system). It's unfortunate to hear that there ...

Re: Atroxian Realm (Version 1.1 Released)

Yeah, I'm sorry, Gridlock. :no Hey, no worries. As far as I'm concerned, the game was already complete in terms of story art. But, since you had that last partially finished image, I thought it would be a shame to let it go to waste and not find a way to include it. It would have been cool to see t...

Re: Atroxian Realm

For Keen Day :birthday , I am finally releasing an updated version of Atroxian Realm (version 1.1). It's been over 3 years since the game's initial release, so that might be one of the longest turnaround times ever for an updated version, but I suppose late is better than never. :-o Download: Atroxi...

Re: The Alphamatic

Happy Keen Day! I've got a small announcement: I'm working on an updated version 2 of The Alphamatic. I don't get the impression that this game was widely played, but from the feedback I did get, it seems like I overshot with the difficulty level. For this next release, I want to further improve the...

Re: Is 1UP even a valuable item?

From my experience designing Keen levels, it can be difficult to provide players with any items that have actual value. 1ups, raindrops/vitalin, and points all serve the extra lives system. Points have the extra purpose of leading to a high score, but that can be so easily abused that it really does...

Re: Keen Dreams somehow makes it to Nintendo Switch

Wow, that's neat to see Tom engaging with fans like that. Most game devs I know like to keep more distance (for understandable reasons). I guess it's neat to see Keen Dreams released on Switch. I don't know that I'd buy it for that price, though I am curious about how it runs and controls. The thing...

Re: Some great OPL Synth music to listen on my Soundcloud channel

I really love some of these, especially the first two (Twilit Jungle and Scattered Ashes). I'm curious about the approach you used to create these. I noticed some of these titles mention "GENMIDI demo." Is there any chance that's some kind of adlib converter, or did the conversions have to be some t...

Re: The Alphamatic (An Atroxian Realm Mini-Sequel)

With that being said, when I first played The Alphamatic, I surprisingly found it quite difficult, even on easy. I did beat it on easy over a year ago, tried a few levels on normal and gave up. I didn't play it for over a year. It does seem to me that, in general, the difficulty balance is a bit of...

Re: Early Atroxian Realm Sequel Thoughts

That pyramid theory is the best thing I've seen in quite a while. I'm not sure how, but I totally want to work those pyramid teleporters into the game somehow. Lindsey being a hologram is interesting. I've basically just accepted the uTUIT canon that Lindsey is an ally of Keen, but it's cool to thin...

Re: Early Atroxian Realm Sequel Thoughts

Awesome! I was hoping you'd let us know about the original games you'd be working on. :) I took a look at their site, and Pixel Galaxy looked like something I might enjoy and was on sale for something easily within my price range, so I bought it. :D So there's $1 of support from me. :crazy Thank yo...

Re: Early Atroxian Realm Sequel Thoughts

So, with it being the new year and all (and almost 3! years since Atroxian Realm's release), I thought I'd give as best of an update as I can on this project in case anyone is still hoping for info. As far as progress... well, there's been very little concrete progress to be honest. I'm still largel...

Re: The things/places in Keen you were most afraid of?

I think I was probably 4 or 5 years old when I had my first experiences with Keen, watching my parents play Keen 4. I was absolutely terrified of the "mean clouds" in Chasm of Chills and would run terrified out of the room whenever my parents encountered them. I don't remember a whole lot else reall...

Re: Suburb Shenanigans

I've played several levels so far, and I'm really impressed with what you've accomplished here. I really didn't believe it would be possible to pull off such intricate and complicated designs from a gameplay perspective, but it works amazingly well. The suburb setting is brilliant and also kind of d...

Re: How should the next Keen game be handled?

1: No teams within Zenimax really jump to mind as a good fit, but I'd like to see a mid size team (at least bigger than a scrappy indie team) take it on. 2: I think the Keen series needs a complete reboot if it's going to be commercially successful and reach a wider audience. It should be faithful t...
