Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Well, I had hoped that it wouldn't come to this, but it seems that the scope of what I wanted for this wasn't possible. The project is cancelled. It's been 16 years, and I haven't done much in terms of the game anyways. (I did do a lot of graphics and some songs, and some text modification, but in t...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Really, the one main thing I need help with is C programming. That's the main issue. I think offloading the texts and effect markups in the game is a good idea, because that's what seems to take up the most room in the compiled program. I'd also like to be able to add larger sprites, like Commander ...

Re: First Keen mod you played

Had to be Zero X. I was floored when I heard the new music on the map screen, as I thought that it wasn't possible to modify Commander Keen.

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Your plans are starting to sound like you're about to abandon the Cosmo code and instead mod Cosmo into the Duke Nukem II codebase. That's fine, but at this point, you might as well scrap all of that and move to the Keen Galaxy engine to get some smooth movement going instead of the 8-pixel-steps t...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Either that delay is so short that the player won't even notice the difference between stopping and fading out, or it'll waste a few seconds of the player's life every time the music stops or changes. The main question is: Is it really worth implementing that in a 16-bit Cosmo executable? It doesn'...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Now, see, THIS is EXACTLY what I need. What others think I can and cannot do with the ideas that I have, and how detailed I should make them for them to understand. I haven't been able to do this, really, since I started. I've read the "program changes" document and I have to say that most...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Based on my experience with the other fan projects I've been involved with (Planet Cloudius IX and Foray in the Forest) and the progress mentioned in your signature, I'd guess that you are several years away from actually releasing a finished product. And by "finished product" I'm only ta...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Okay, following on some advice from Ceilick, I'd like to try something... I know some of you know about what this game is about, but I'd like to clear this up. I'm just one person, with a lot of ideas, and I'd like to be able to get some new ideas, or trade with others. I'm going on nearly 15 years ...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

That's fine. :P It's not a big deal. Personally, I don't see a reason to do so. It looks okay, but it's just a new thin coat of paint on the game, like Crystal Caves was. I need people to help, though, for sound, music, graphics, and coding, if I want to get this mod off the ground. (I've been makin...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

I joined this forum to say that I would like to help with graphics. I've been a Cosmo fan since 1993 and have a lot of experience with making pixel art. The idea of an Earth-based level set was something I thought about way back in the day and it would be really cool to lend my skills to this proje...

Re: COSMO'S COSMIC ADVENTURE SOURCE CODE RECONSTRUCTED!

Yeah, I have NO experience with 8086 assembly language. I had to go in with a hex editor and severely truncate my story to fit within the established parameters. Not fun. There was always a risk that I would corrupt the entire program by pressing Backspace, moving every instruction out of alignment....

Re: COSMO'S COSMIC ADVENTURE SOURCE CODE RECONSTRUCTED!

I would be putting info of how the engine works up on the Modding Wiki, but all my avenues of logging in are gone. I wasn't banned or anything. To be honest, the Modding Wiki is very broken. I lost my password, and the files on the server have so many viruses that Google has blocked the e-mail servi...

COSMO'S COSMIC ADVENTURE SOURCE CODE RECONSTRUCTED!

https://github.com/smitelli/cosmore Yes, you read that right. This is NOT a joke! I am so grateful that this has happened. One Mr. Scott Smitelli has taken the time to look through the hex assembly of the game and reconstitute it into C (or C++, I'm not sure because I am not versed in either languag...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Ok, I have good news and bad news. I don't have to truncate my story down as much as I previously needed to, possibly leading to corruption of the program if I accidentally press backspace in the hex editor I used before. Yeesh. Having to trim down my story before was not fun. The bad news (not so b...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

OK, I looked through the rebuilt code, and have made some discoveries: Like Commander Keen, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure has a demo recorder. It is activated by pressing F11 in debug mode. (TAB+DEL+F12) You have to start the game first, then activate debug mode, go back to the main menu, and press F11. ...
