Re: The LIVE music thread.

Just been to see Napalm Death (second time!) in London (Camden's Electric Ballroom, a lovely venue) as part of their Campaign for Musical Destruction event. This was really incredible. This is a recurring event they've devised which showcases major bands who in their words "you don't get to see ...

Re: Last movie you saw

Been watching a few Schwarzenegger classics recently namely "Total Recall" and "The Running Man". Truly excellent films, and of an era which is extremely synergistic thematically with the classic DOS game era that we know and love. There is a lot of substance to these film storylines, and the ...

Re: Platformania is back!

I like your progress - it's looking much more coherent graphically than the earlier incarnations! Though it's diverging further from the early-mid 90s VGA look, and converging towards the ~2006-2007 look from sites like Miniclip, the latter is an era for which I have significant nostalgia and thus I ...

Re: The Earth Explodes! - Galaxy

Just downloaded and played a bit. I don't recall playing any earlier version of this though I could be wrong. It's really beautiful, the graphics including sprites are outstanding. It definitely carries that Keen2 vibe which I love.

Obviously there is some work to be done on it and I'm glad you ...

Re: Commander Keen 6 remake

Looks great! I have no familiarity whatseover with the setup/engine you're using for this, but if this is a recreation of galaxy from first principles then it's a very impressive start.

Dark's comment about jumps and gravity is of course correct, but you will undoubtedly be well aware of that and I ...

Re: What bands or musicians do you listen to?

I like it, Berserk Bard! Really well played and produced! Is it all performed by you (as in one person?) It's paying back into metal the debt owed by the composers of Doom, Duke etc. Great to have keen references too! At first I struggled to search you on my Spotify but realised I was writing ...

Happy New Year everyone (even if it's a borderline-late message).

Always interesting to year your stories about your life, Soul Monster. I'm really glad you are doing well with your art. Art is really a very valuable pursuit and I spend more and more of my time viewing art in galleries. Finally ...

Re: First Keen mod you played

Interesting! Assuming your absolute confidence in having played it in the 1990s, that really narrows the options.

Commander Keen modding itself didn't exist in any form akin to what we know before around 2002. Since then several Christmas mods were made starting around 2004-2005 (including my own ...

I did! I also thought that the top of Cosmo's hair has a "Bartish" look. I guess the Simpsons was one of the absolute defining bits of excitement of that entire era.

Re: Merry Christmas 2025!

Happy Christmas and St Stephen's Day!

I had a lovely day yesterday, walked through some of the nicest parts of London and then had a delicious Christmas dinner in the pub. I had trepidation that quality would be mediocre but actually it was fantastic. Though the bill of £100 per person is a lot, I ...

Re: Impossible Pogo Trick macro

My understanding regarding Vorticons has always been that you can indeed do an immediate high pogo jump from a standing start with appropriate use of control and alt. But that there is no actual "impossible pogo" trick that gives you extra height. I guess the immediate jump is also technically ...

Hi SpacialRended

Welcome! Forgot to reply sooner, but just want to say I find these Gen Z perspectives you've done fantastic. I would definitely like to see you develop this line of creativity with Keen, maybe a comic/cartoon or even a mod!

This is an amusing website!

The only place I found on it where people just cannot politely totlerate what others have drawn... is Glasgow.

I found some cool Mario levels in the sea near New York...

Re: New Old Keen History From Scott Miller - Apogee/3DR Founder

Very cool! I love this era where analogue mail based business meets cutting edge technology.

I guess they were still figuring out industry standard nomenclature. Think of how Duke Nukem II was a blanket label for a whole series of 4 games, not to be confused with the second installment of original ...
