Re: AUR Support for Arch users
This a problem I have to tackle with Git. We have been moving too much around over the years. There is a way to hoover a bit the repository. Not sure yet how. If everything fails we create open a new one. I think it is good to preserve the history, and I did some investigation and it looks like it'...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki
@Nisaba: Haha thanks, I've managed to focus on the KeenWiki for a couple of days now instead of doing other things so I've been able to make some progress with cleaning up some of the things that have bugged me for a long time. I'm a big fan of the automated lists, because it means that if you come ...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki
FYI I have added some documentation about how to add a new mod to the wiki. I hope it will also be useful for the other regular contributors to explain what I have done with the new templates and how they can be used.

Re: AUR Support for Arch users
Thanks for this, I was able to install it, although it did a full git clone rather than a shallow one (--depth 1) so it took a long time to download thanks to my slow Internet connection. I noticed that the compile paths (pkg and src) seem to be hard-coded into the binary which is not so useful afte...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki
Be careful Spleen, if you do that potato people might think you're a bit weird. Updating the mod status would be a great place to start. My personal opinion is that a mod should be Alpha if it's buggy, Beta if it only has a few levels or graphical changes but looks like it should have more, and Aban...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki
Yes as much as I love Potato, I've changed it to Yes, No and Some.
I'll have to update those #ask queries to use Yes/No instead of true/false.

Re: Planet Of Agony (Keen 1 mod)
I also agree with this. It's all about risk for the player. As a level becomes larger, the risk increases that you'll lose more and more work if you die and have to return to the start. Duke Nukem II (among others) addressed this by having checkpoints, so if you die you don't have to go all the way ...

Tantalus Ray spam
I don't normally pass along spam, but I get a few occasional messages from content on the KeenWiki and thought this one was a little amusing: From: Janet Rogers <janet@your-rv-lifestyle.email> To: malvineous Subject: Re: Research on Things on Do in France Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2017 12:35:49 -0800 Just wa...

Semantic KeenWiki
As mentioned in the other thread, I have been planning to install Semantic MediaWiki on the KeenWiki to provide more functionality and also make future upgrades easier. This has now been done, and I've updated the pictorial mod lists to use the new functions. This has revealed some inconsistencies i...

Re: Sound player for KeenWiki
Interesting. Thanks for the reports! Seems bizarre it always seems to use around 10% CPU regardless of platform or speed :confused The code compiles down to asm.js which is a special type of JavaScript that web browsers can further compile into machine code and execute at near native speeds, so you'...

Re: Sound player for KeenWiki
Actually rather embarrassingly it turned out that it wasn't the OPL synth using such high CPU - although playing songs used 75% CPU, when the songs weren't playing Firefox was still using 60% CPU :barf One of the issues is that because the Web Audio API wasn't designed with this sort of thing in min...

Re: Sound player for KeenWiki
Well since you asked for updates, I have managed to get things to a point where I can actually play a song entirely in the browser, although it does use about 75% CPU power (of a single core/thread) @ 2.8GHz but that's to be expected. Next step is to tidy up the code a bit and see if there are any e...

Not sure about the HTML as it's not stored as HTML, but the MySQL database containing all the text content and page revision history is 212 MB. The images are 3.2 GB. The tools and mods are 786 MB.

Re: Political Thread Discussion
Yes you do, you just leave your ballot paper blank when you "vote" :P There was also a recent local council election where only one person nominated for mayor, so nobody had to go and vote, they were just declared elected. Also, as I found out once when I happened to have an overseas trip booked, if...
