Re: Some great OPL Synth music to listen on my Soundcloud channel

Hey, this is pretty sweet, dude. Thanks! I'm especially liking the Peer Gynt one - In the Hall of the Mountain King is one of my favorite pieces. It'd make a pretty good ringtone; if I ever feel like fussing about with new ringtones may I use that? Yes. I also have full version of that song so I ca...

Some great OPL Synth music to listen on my Soundcloud channel

Hey, do you like to hear some Adlib/Sound Blaster/OPL Synth-styled music, like what plays in Commander Keen and many other good games from DOS era? If yes, then let's check out my Soundcloud channel: https://soundcloud.com/hisymak where I uploaded selection of my most favourite MIDIs from various mu...

Re: Is Commander Keen music weak?

... Thanks for some technical explanation. I was kind of expecting a response like this, now I know someting more about IMF format as you put some light on all this. Commander Keen is really a superior game, mostly about the gameplay and originality, and good graphics. Now I also understand better,...

Re: Jill Of The Jungle 4

Well, you can finally check it out here . I'm pretty sure you could come up with a better user interface. Since the tool was written without a GUI toolkit, most of the interface is just something thrown together to get the job done. The biggest problem for you would probably be getting the objects ...

Is Commander Keen music weak?

Hi. Even since my earlier gaming times, I always thought, that Commander Keen music was rather inferior/weaker/not that great, compared to music from other games I played that time (speaking only and exclusively about Adlib/OPL-based music). Well, I actually liked Commander Keen music in the sense, ...

Re: Misconceptions

the real question is, did anyone here actually see the Perilous Pit as it was intended? Well, after I grew up and learned English, I could actually understand the level name. Then I looked carefully at the graphics, and from then, I saw it really like a hole in the ground. Earlier, when I was a sma...

Re: Jill Of The Jungle 4

Aah, pretty nice thing! I really think I could have decided better to start implementing Jill of the Jungle level editor back then, rather than Hocus Pocus or VGFM one. For some reason this game seems to be much more popular and tempting to make mods and custom levels for, than those two I mentioned...

Re: Misconceptions

My younger brother always thought (while watching me playing) that the pickup sound of the neural stunner item would awaken Robo Reds and possibly other monsters (because of the sound being loud and trumpet-like). He also thought it was not the case in Keen6, where the sound was much softer.

Re: Level editor programming

Hi. I actually have quite solid experience making level editors for DOS tile-based platformer games. Some of you might remember, that about 2 years ago, I created level editors for Hocus Pocus and Vinyl Goddess From Mars . The editors are made in Delphi 7, which is development toolkit based on Pasca...

How you imagined the secret pyramid level would look like before finding a way to it?

Probably many of you took some time to discover a way how to get into the secret Hand pyramid in Keen4, and before seeing how it actually looks like inside, you had some thoughts and imaginations about it. As for me, I don't remember I had any strong idea. I was just thinking that the level could be...

The things/places in Keen you were most afraid of?

Were there any monsters you were really scared of or places you were always afraid of and could not pass through back then, when you were a kid? Here are mine: 1. The Dopefish. Well of Wishes was definitely the hardest level of Keen4 for me. Not only I was extremely scared of a Dopefish eating me, b...

Re: The strange/impossible things that happened to you in Keen

"1. Bugging through wall into water pool in Sand Yego." I had the same situation in the game. Checked, it's really possible! Video: https://youtu.be/2qg0AeZQI8w Good! So that was definitely not a false memory. I really believed it happened to me, but I could do it only once in my life and never was...

Re: What Music Are You Listening To?

Recently I started listening to the songs of a Czech pop singer Iveta Bartošová. I normally did not listen to this sort of music, but I really started liking this for some reason, especially the fairy-tale themed, medeival-ish-themed, and emotional songs. But most importantly, why I am writing this ...

Re: Shortcuts

Not sure if this one counts as a shortcut:
In the Moon pyramid, if you find the secret to get on top of the pyramid (above the big yellow bricks), go to the right border of level and you'll be able to exit the level without having the yellow gem.
