I have one theory. Things like this could be caused by a hardware failure or memory corruption. Once I owned an older PC with DOS which had somehow damaged memory controller. On each boot it wrote "Memory test fail" on the boot screen and I needed to press F1 to continue. Probably all the games whic...

Did cheat codes ruin your experience of playing Keen?

After I started playing computer games, for many years I had absolutely no idea about cheat codes. I simply did not know there was a possibility to be immortal, walk through walls, or get all weapons, ammo and keys in the games, because I simply never heard about it before. So I always played games ...

The strange/impossible things that happened to you in Keen

I got a PC and Commander Keen 4 on it when I was about 4 years old. I was a very little kid with undeveloped perception and memory and strong imagination, so occasionally I was just imagining things and thought that something happened to me and believed in it for many years. Later I realized that th...

I just remembered one thing I thought about Well of Wishes for very long time. I thought that the first big open area with a Dopefish was connected to the other area with a Dopefish just before the exit (that means, the wall marked with red cross didn't exist). I always had huge problems to get past...

Here are mine: 1. I thought that the Keen 4 secret level (I always called it Hand Pyramid) was actually not secret, but had to be purchased/paid for, exactly like the inaccessible levels in Keen6 demo version. Once I "buy" it, some of the obstacles (trees) on world map would disappear and make dirre...

I definitely played this game a lot, I have great memories of it! I also made an article about this on my website (welovedosgames.net). It's a solid sidescroller. Great work with the editor! Thank you, Dreams! Nice post on your website. I just noticed that the download link to my level pack does no...

While analyzing the format of the PC Speaker sound effects in Hocus Pocus, I found out that the game actually only uses a quarter of the data stored in those files. If you're curious, this is what the full sounds sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-QCdVMGYHU That's amazing! It's nice to s...

Since we have Camoto Studio, we're able to easily make previews of all the levels, aren't we? I think it already supports Monster Bash.

eh. Basically I have never played any "modern" commercial game from the last, say, 10 years (Minecraft and Plants vs. Zombies being the only exceptions), because they're not my taste. I simply prefer the classic pixelated graphics over the modern realistic 3D graphics. So this game doesn't get me at...

I just watched the whole video and I'm really amazed you did everything with only one live lost. I remember when I played Monster Bash the first time, I could not finish the level for long time because I could not find the exit. I had absolutely no idea I needed to crouch and crawl through the log i...

Actually I know some more information about Hocus Pocus music. It uses standard MIDI files for music, so it's really easy to replace music with your custom midis, althrough the file size limit is 32kB. There is a table with OPL register values for each midi instrument (175 entries total) inside HOCU...

What Hocus Pocus does to make OPL-music sound good?

Well, I and probably many of you always thought that Hocus Pocus OPL music always sounded very good - what I exactly mean, it sounds "deep" and "warm", sort of like it was played in "sound-surround" mode (in comparison to other games, whose OPL music sounds rather "flat"). The music seems to be play...

That resulting midi sounds really nice. You manually set the instruments, didn't you? Are you going to convert more?

Also setting and finding good OPL instruments is hard, at least for me. I admire some DOS game creators for what they managed to do with OPL.
