Re: Keen 4 Least Favorite Level?

Crystalus.

The more I reflect on my preferences for levels, the more I realize that I'm not a fan of verticality! Bloogton Tower and Crystalus are among my least favorite Keen levels, and they're both tremendously vertical.

The Bounder's jump/impact noise changes also, multiple times in that video. :(

Re: My keen childhood "trauma"

I had multiple nightmares about Vorticons when I was maybe in 4th or 5th grade. Mostly about the hopelessness of an entire planet of them, brainwashed, coming to get me. They're supposed to be a sort of goofy, gawky enemy, but they scared the crap out of me when I first played Keen!

Re: Operation Station Infiltration

If Red has a green bottom, then Blue shouldn't have a green bottom also. If Green's going to have a pink bottom, there should maybe be a Robo Pink? Could just cycle everything, so that Red has green bottom, Blue has yellow, Green has red, and Yellow has blue. Why not have one of the mouths be more o...

Re: Return to the Shadowlands

This mod was fantastic! :) Ceilick, your love for the series shone through the level design. I have to admit, some of the levels were a bit on the huge side for me, and I found myself getting confused/lost, but the overall pacing and play was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Accessin...

I've never managed, but I've also never tried. :) I took one look at the fishes and the cakes and said "Moving on!"

Re: Keen GBC MIDIs

As an aside, Benvolio, that screenshot of Midisoft Session brings back a LOT of memories for me--that was my first MIDI editor, back when I was in 7th grade! I later moved to Midisoft Studio 4.0, and used that until I updated to Windows 7, which no longer allowed me to run it. :( I loved that softwa...

Re: Keen GBC MIDIs

Thanks! I'd never played the Keen GBA game, either, and I figured I should rectify that. I found it a little confusing, and it took me a while to figure out how to activate switches, and ultimately I decided I didn't want to spend the time & energy to play it all the way through... but the music...

Re: COSMO'S COSMIC ADVENTURE SOURCE CODE RECONSTRUCTED!

Thank you, K1n9_Duk3, for that in-depth response! You've pretty much identified exactly why I lost steam on XkyKeen4 and eventually gave up. I have no experience working with "The Stack" and assembler language, and all I was doing was poking around in the .EXE with a hex editor and trying ...

Re: COSMO'S COSMIC ADVENTURE SOURCE CODE RECONSTRUCTED!

Can you guys please help me understand the difference between "patching" and "source code mods?" Like... a source code mod would be changing the actual game code, changing the hard-coded values for, say, text and graphics. Modding would be... intercepting values as they are place...

The design of the Chaos Tempest is interesting! I wonder how the new enemy will behave.

Re: My first track

Lots of parallel fifths in there, at the beginning! But you do some fun stuff with obfuscation of the downbeat near the end, and I appreciate how metered and patient it feels.

Is this for a KeenMod you're working on?

Gernot, do you write music? :)

I have to admit, the train-of-thought transmissions you share are a bit hard to follow at times.

Re: How to put an help text in Keen 6

I'm a Deputy Administrator over at Keen:Modding and to be honest, there are an awful lot of spambots posting on the page. Some days I check the board and there are only a dozen spam posts in the queue that need to be denied; other times I've encountered over 300! I don't know what sort of anti-spam ...
