Keen:Modding as a release platform

Hi guys, I barely come over to the PCKF these days, for some reason or another, and so I've been having a hard time keeping up with recent mod releases. The most recent mod that was posted in the Keen:Modding Mod forums was Ceilick's fantastic Keen 9: Battle of the Brains . That was back in February...

I think as an important sidenote, it should be mentioned that the pace of the music should generally match the pace of the gameplay. Many of the MegaMan tracks posted are significantly uptempo relative to Keen's tracks, and it's easy to see why--the player is pushing buttons and making decisions at ...

What do you listen for in Video Game Music? Primarily, I listen for a catchy tune that doesn't repeat too frequently. Having different " sections " within the piece helps to keep it from getting static too quickly, and I fully admit I am a sucker for stereotypical music theory progressions and form...

It's crazy to think that all the levels in Keen3 were created in a single weekend. :) Given that kind of rush, I'm surprised they're as good as they are. Hard as heck and ridiculously unfair, but they more often than not work.

32x44 is kind of huge for a Keen sprite in the default engine...

My custom Keen sprite is 16x32, and the default is even smaller than that, isn't it? :\

Edit: The run cycle I have for my avatar is 24x32, and some of the 24 width is purely to keep the animation a static size.

Cybloog Slayer, if that isn't taken. I thought there was a rule that custom titles are given only after a certain amount of posts. This is correct, though archaic. At the time custom titles were introduced, a member had to be part of the forums for six months AND have a post total of at least 314 t...

Chiming in to say this is awesome--I had my first match against Ceilick, and got quite lucky. :)

Looking forward to some potential 4p madness in the near future!!

The theme from the Guard Post levels in Keen6 is my favorite. :) I also like the theme from the Domes of Darkness, and the theme from Bloogton Manufacturing/Bloogfoods Inc. Keen6 had my favorite themes. Least favorite would be the Security Center in Keen5. It's even more annoying to me than the them...

Looking at the comparison between the beta/demo and the final, it looks like they did a search for unused tiles/things and just wiped them--it would explain why the ground tiles look so gosh darn confusing in the final, and why there's, say, no Arachnut for "Normal" difficulty (the 2). Ceilick, as a...

Truly a monumental achievement. Congratulations, all! :)
