Re: Jmod editor for Jill of the Jungle

I don't know of any Jill modding tools designed specifically for Macs. jMod is Win32 only. You may be able to get it to run via Wine in Linux, but I don't know if something like Wine exists for Macs as well. You could try using Jill's built-in level editor, but that one was never meant to be used by...

Re: Recreated Keen 4-6 Source Code

Awesome! I just tested it myself. Compiling the modified code, compressing the executable and hex-editing the compressed file to get rid of the LZ91 string gave me a file with the same size and checksum as the original. Thank you for looking into this. I'm currently going though the source once more...

Re: Recreated Keen 4-6 Source Code

Although I'm wondering how much problems there were with the orders of global variables in the exes. I think that there could maybe be more issues with this while using Borland C++ 2.0, but I'm unsure. I was actually about to contact you and ask for some help or advice, but after browsing your recr...

Recreated Keen 4-6 Source Code

I can't see any reason why we couldn't make our own source code (With blackjack! And hookers!) Looks like we won't be seeing the original source code released to the public anytime soon, so I might as well share this with you (no blackjack or hookers, sorry if that quote got your hopes up). If you ...

Re: Tips for recording DOSBox video on Linux (on a low-end computer)

I also once had a machine with broken keys. fortunately DOSBox' build-in keymapper allows to change the default keybindings to tackle this issue Ha yeah, that's what I ended up doing. I'd tried to use something called xmodmap to temporarily remap the keys on a system level but for some reason that ...

Re: Return to the Shadowlands

I think we don't need to rearrage the tiles at all, we just need a map editor that allows the user to select from a rearranged "palette" of tiles instead of (or in addition to) the tileset. Think of it as a pseudo-tileset that you can edit like a regular level. That would allow the user to...

Re: Return to the Shadowlands

To finish, bugs are expected. One example is the name of "Pyramid of Footsteps" as shown while the level is loading Oh, "Pyramid of Foo steps", I didn't notice that before. I also had one instance in which the game froze while in Sunken Sinkhole; I realize that it can probably n...

Re: Goodbye Galaxy Report Card

One of the earliest examples of an interactive soundtrack that I can think of would be the LucasArts iMUSE system as heard in Monkey Island 2 . LucasArts patented iMUSE, so any other company would either have to license iMUSE or come up with an approach that is different enough to not violate the pa...

Re: Dead in the Desert - Cactus Forest Unbeatable

I remember that level causing trouble in early versions of my Keen:Galaxy level viewer. I just dug up the old version and opened the DITD levels with it. There are a bunch of errors in the decompressed info plane and one of these errors is a scroll blocker placed around the same position as shown in...

Re: Return to the Shadowlands

GalaxyView says there are up to 1,453,000 points in the levels. (Actually 1,493,800 points, but 40,800 of them are located in an unreachable backup level.) The Treasure Eater placement makes it impossible to collect all of these points, so it's hard to tell what the highest obtainable score might be.

Re: Customized Screen Update Code For Keen 4-6

The version of CK4PATCH that comes with the official download for "Keys of Krodacia" is ancient and hopelessly outdated (v0.9.0 beta from 2003). That old version doesn't support the number formats used in my patch script. If you replace that version with a more recent one (or use my patchi...

Re: Customized Screen Update Code For Keen 4-6

Any help appreciated. You're probably better off using my unofficial bugfix release of that mod (see this thread ). That release has the screen update patch already applied to it. Apart from that, I can't help you any further unless you specify what "not working" means in this case. Maybe...

I've been widely criticized and threatened with being banned for innocently posting a link to the whole collection of keen games. The Forum Rules are pretty clear on this topic: Don't link to piracy sites or illegal downloads. And you actually mentioned getting banned in the very first post you eve...

Re: keen 6 and keen dreams

Yep, it's an ancient form of "copy protection". This was relatively common in the 80's and early 90's. The games ask the user for some information that can only be found in the game's manual or other physical items that came in the game box (code wheels and such). If the user does not prov...

Re: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure II: HUMANIZED!!! (W.I.P.)

Your plans are starting to sound like you're about to abandon the Cosmo code and instead mod Cosmo into the Duke Nukem II codebase. That's fine, but at this point, you might as well scrap all of that and move to the Keen Galaxy engine to get some smooth movement going instead of the 8-pixel-steps th...
