Granted. It's the entire electromagnetic spectrum. You are blinded constantly by wavelengths that really are better off invisible.

I wish I had an HD webcam.

Granted. The planet literally rises out of its orbit. Everyone dies. But on the bright side, nobody's oppressed any more. God sighs and power cycles the universe.

I wish I had a silver dollar.

Re: NetKeen help

Do you have NKLAUNCH or are you starting it manually? If manually, you need to run IPX commands in DOSBox to connect the two together before trying to run Netkeen. 1. Is ipx set to “true” in DOSBox.conf on both machines? 2. Do you know what the IP address of each machine is and are you using that in...

Hello from 1994! (still waiting for TUIT... fingers crossed!)

It's 1994 and I've just got myself a brand new IBM Thinkpad 755C! It has an incredibly fast Intel 486DX4 CPU running at 75 MHz. I'm impressed. The 20 MB of RAM are plenty for all of my programs. I like the snazzy Windows 3.1 interface. The high resolution 640x480 screen is really nice too. This new ...

Re: Starting out with CKSRCMOD: some issues

Woah, Borland C++ 3 works perfectly! So now I can get to coding. I grabbed a copy of the latest (1.3) Atroxian Realm source code. It also compiles fine and works properly. Right now I'm not looking to do anything huge with the code. I just want to poke around in it, familiarize myself with the struc...

Starting out with CKSRCMOD: some issues

Hello everyone who knows something about cksrcmod: I am going to try to dive into this code and figure out how it all works. I figure I may as well just get my hands dirty. It was easy enough to get it compiling. I'm using Borland Turbo C++ 3, and TASM 5. It compiles just fine. But after compiling i...

Re: Getting Keen 4-6 and Dreams mods running on real DOS PCs

OK, so I tested this trick on my 486 and my IBM PC AT (286). On the 486 it works! But not nearly as well as your results, K1n9_Duk3... I wasn't able to get it to surpass 500K. It was grabbing enough memory for any of the big mods to function properly, but only barely. My best results came with JEMME...

Re: Getting Keen 4-6 and Dreams mods running on real DOS PCs

Woah!

I vaguely suspected the UMB thing might affect it, but I was not prescient enough to actually try to remove it.

Thanks for figuring this out, K1n9_Duk3. I'll test it on my machines soon.

Re: Operation Ocflore

I guess the memory manager was originally targeted at an earlier DOS version and might have worked with XMS at some point. As I mentioned earlier, I can't get XMS to work either. OK this is interesting. I know Keen has stuff in the help files about "if you run DOS 5.0", probably expecting...

Re: Operation Ocflore

Put this at the end of your patch file and don't use any of the .COM files: ... This patch overwrites unused parts of the old VW_SetScreen, so don't use it without my customized screen update code! This is only to be used in Ocflore, anyway. Thanks! This worked perfectly. After much banging of head...

Re: Operation Ocflore

I'm testing the game on my 286 right now. So far: Palette commands don't work on a 286, I guess they require a 386. So I have to run the game manually with ck4patch ocflore.pat, and all the colors look off. Game runs out of memory trying to load the first level. Not a surprise as I have only the def...

Re: How's the community been?

I've been largely inactive here for a long time, not because I've lost interest in Keen (in fact, I just finished reorganizing my room with a large space reserved for my 486, the only computer in the house that can run Commander Keen the way it was intended), but because life interferes. A lot has h...
