Now what do we have here...a beta!

So I was a bit bored today and started searching around the net for some old Gamer's Edge stuff to get a bit more insight into writing e.g. the game development articles for the wiki. I came across this floppy disk image of a disk that was apparently included with some magazine as a free sample of G...

It certainly raises some questions regarding the version numbering, but why would the game and the installer use completely different version labels? I just can't believe that the versions displayed in the game EXEs could be wrong seeing as we have found two versions of the Softdisk Publishing versi...

Does anyone else actually have Keen Dreams 1.7? Haven't seen it being offered as a patch or a download from anywhere.

Yeah and if you find yourself overwhelmed by the amount of mods, the XkyKeen's are quite good mods to start with and you shouldn't miss Keys of Krodacia (the only full-size Keen 4 mod) either.

Don't know, I almost always play with two-button firing yet I do succeed quite often at doing the impossible pogo trick but getting it to jump as high as possible is difficult though.

I always played 4-6 on Hard. I only considered a win legitimate if it was done on Hard. Sure, you can save constantly, but that's necessary. It makes the game playable to begin with. For me, beating a game on hard by saving/loading constantly feels a lot less like an accomplishment compared to beat...

Yeah, I did end up trying it, but it felt like just another generic platformer instead of Keen. From my memory the level design was quite difficult and confusing so I didn't end up playing the game for too long, but it did have some nice stuff in it so I might still pick it up someday and finish it.

I can't really remember having any trouble in most of the Keen games, do remember dying a few times in Keen 2 (mainly to Vorticon Elites guarding the guns), Keen 3 and Keen Dreams (no raygun, ughhh...) In Keen 3, Fort Vorticon and Cape Canavorta no doubt. Still today always having problems beating t...

Yeah that's what I meant with "not completely accessible", but the worst bug of these is in my opinion in Fort Vorticon ( map ), which by the way is probably the hardest map in the game. In the final underground part if you get the red keycard, walk through the one-way portal, take the pat...

Too bad they still left a bunch of bugs unfixed, one of the levels allow you to get stuck if you walk through those one-way portals and forget to pick up a certain (green?) keycard before doing that, some levels aren't completely accessible, the blue keycard has a light blue background in your inven...
