Re: Is Keen boring now?
I don't often play games in general at the moment, and this has been the case for at least much of this decade, maybe a few months' stretch here and there where I game more frequently. Usually this is because even if I do have the time there's always a nagging sense that I should be doing something ...

Re: Full Retro
I never could justify this level of vintage, but it is a pleasant sight. It's not like you're trying to get your Keen engine to run on these. Right? ... (Also I should have kept our ol' beige analogue phone. Funny how quickly things I don't care much about become appreciated by other people and wort...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
Is anyone interested in starting some work on story / level design / graphics? We need story ideas first of all. I think it should be kept much more in the spirit of Keen than of other games like Doom or Duke Nukem (i.e. let's not just do the stereotypical "badass mofo" character.) Let's ...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
KeenRush: Taking a demoscene approach and targeting a particular executable file size limit might be a more meaningful objective. But really, just getting anything meaningful running on a 386 these days is enough of an achievement. As for the game itself, I'd prefer the main game to be something non...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
I never did try FreeBASIC. When I looked into it many years ago, I had the impression there were difficulties with graphics modes or something so I stuck with QB64. But if it's working that well with this engine in raw DOS then I'll have to check it out again. Requiring extended mode makes it less i...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
I would support the idea as a DOS project targeting 386 hardware (which ran the likes of Jazz and Jill fine, but started to struggle a bit with Tyrian's optional extra effects). Otherwise just use GODOT or Commander Genius if it's only going to run on modern machines and otherwise require a lot of w...

Re: Commander Genius Logo Contest
What I did not see is the letter "C" at first glance. I saw the "G" and by knowing it is "CG" I noticed the "C" letter afterwards. I cannot explain why it is, but my wife also thought the same saying: why only "G" at first and did not notice the let...

Re: Video of 2 Players
The moment the player gets the crystal, all players got it, thus the one on the crystal holder opens the door. Speedruns would be fun. It would be a lot more interesting if only one player can hold a keygem at once and they have to either bring it all the way to the holder or go to another player a...

Re: Planet Of Agony (Keen 1 mod)
I'm saving this one for when I'm back home for summer. Haven't been in much of a gaming frame of mind where I am at the moment.

Re: Playing Keen Mods In Web Browser
It actually does it in Linux too now, but somehow I hadn't noticed. Tried overriding Alt with JavaScript but it still triggers the menu. Going to about:config?filter=ui.key.menuAccessKeyFocuses and changing it to false turns it off, but asking every user to modify their browser configuration is not ...

Re: Commander Genius Logo Contest
@Commander Spleen: Very fresh I love it! The latest one is something I could imagine as app-icon on the smartphone. The colors remind me a bit of Keen 4. Maybe we can rework on it and give it more identity. What do you think? Indeed, smartphone app icon is what I had in mind. Do you have any specif...

Re: Commander Genius Logo Contest
Maybe something like this. Though I think it's a bit too busy at the moment and needs a lot of work on the shading.
