This makes me think of the Disk Tom Hall found that said 'Keen Source' on it. Wait, what's this now? On a SQ800 cartridge , I guess. I see no hidden bricks! You have to go through the Voricon Commander! It's not about the bricks you can't see, it's the location of the bricks you can see which is a ...

Great find! So that's a small piece of original Keen 1 code? :eek :foot :dead2 Until we get the whole source code, I can't be sure. This is something I just talked about with someone -- that maybe there could be some source code in there as well. And so it seems. Are you sure there isn't any more? ...

Another difference between this version and version 1.0/1.31: When you run the game on a computer without an EGA or VGA card you get a different message: New beta version: Sorry, you need an EGA or VGA graphic card to play Commander Keen. Buy one! Version 1.0 and version 1.31: Hey, I don't see an EG...

I was going to create a topic here on PCKF about some source code of Keen 1 that I found on the Gamer's Edge Sampler disk. And I was going to ask if someone could find more interesting Keen stuff on it. I guess I'm too late :). It sure has exceeded my expectations on what to find on this disk. Too b...

It's possible in Crystal Caves and Secret Agent to hack the game to use screen mode 640x200 instead of 320x200 and it shows the whole width of a level at once. Too bad it still scrolls horizontally, but I think that can be fixed. I've read somewhere that it's also possible to hack DOSBox and some DO...

Duck Dodgers teleporter
I was watching Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century and I noticed the teleporters (they were known as "evaporators" back in 1953 :p) in that cartoon looked quite familiar. I guess Tom Hall wasn't lying when he said "Duck Dodgers in the 24-1/2 Century" was an influence for Commander...

The CGA versions seem quite a mad thing to do, especially since they didn't make ones of Keen 1-3 which were even earlier games. The reason why no CGA version of Keen 1-3 was ever made was probably primarily because John Carmack didn't know how to do smooth scrolling on CGA setups at the time, the ...
