Re: Best image editing program for editing graphics for a Keen mod?
Might I suggest Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7. Amongst its many benefits is the ability to maintain indexes (not ruin 16-colour palettes) whilst displaying colours as they appear in game. It is new enough (from 2000) to be far easier to use than anything contemporary with Keen, but old enough not to have sw...

Re: What Music Are You Listening To?
First of all that Aero Zeppelin cover is so garging cool, thank you for telling us about it. Now regarding Kurt and Nirvana, what they are is one of the biggest cases of an artist's reputation being warped by the press and by extension the general public. The story of how the troubled child Kurt gre...

Aero Zeppelin is one of my favourite songs ever, along with the entirety of Incesticide.

Re: Are mods better than the official games?
I agree with you DoomJedi. My only counterargument is that modders are also under pressures, just different ones. Generally game developers worked full time (with some famous exceptions not least the early days of id) and were paid to do so or at least made moneu afterwards for big projects at least...

Re: Are mods better than the official games?
Those screenshots posted by Nowhere Girl are beautiful and clearly derive added beauty from the 20 colour palette. However I have no reason to believe that EEGA exists or existed as a hardware specification. The games Nowhere Girl mentions are from the 2010s and use modern day operating systems. I'm...

He should try it on the Amstrad sitting to its left!!
I remember the tall pixels and tiles on my old PC. It seemed to come naturally at the time, though I've become used to the widescreen appearance since!

Re: Are mods better than the official games?
There are a number of ways to think of this. The simplest is probably to pretend each episode is a mod, then give it a rating as such (considering the capabilities you perceive its engine to have). Of course it gets more complex when you try rate the engine. But in modding the engines themselves are...

Re: Should there be a 3D Keen game?
I think a 3D keen game would have been really cool if done in the era of the first Doom, providing the developers had really believed in what they were making. A half hearted effort would not have been nice. This is especially important as the 2D medium requires a different sort of creativity to the...

Re: Commander Keen - Canmore's Redemption (RELEASE)
Have continued playing but quickly hit the issues with crashing in Skidrow District. Like Nowhere Girl, I must admit I play on Easy because I'm rubbish at Galaxy and constantly crash into hazards for no good reason. The problem is happening in the bottom right corner of the level, seemingly as soon ...

Re: Commander Keen - Canmore's Redemption (RELEASE)
Really really love this mod. Graphics, music, atmosphere, all out of this world! A more cohesive visual style than Aurora Bliss though that was fantastic too. I'm so busy these days, only getting started playing it. Just played Toombree Ruins in full, what a thoroughly enjoyable puzzle. It's probabl...

Terrifying! This definitely qualifies as "Other Keen Stuff" and possibly as a dedicated AI thread within that subforum.

Trophies are amazing and I'm very grateful for mine! Maybe someday I can 3d print it, then mould it and cast it in real gold. Need to get a small amount richer first though.

Fair enough!! What do you think of the record? (Not to disregard the rest of your recent listenings of course but Metallica have that special status for many of us.)

Re: The new new music thread
Not sure if/how you accessed the full 72 Seasons album before 14th of April! Anyway I think it's good! Most reviews I've read are fair and I agree with them. The musicianship is essentially as good as they ever were (if not better), whilst the songwriting is fine but doesn't have that unforgettable ...
