Re: Welcome to the migrated PCKF!
The forums are now updated to phpBB 3.3.5 and, as of yesterday, PHP 8 . The latter upgrade should make pages load faster, but as a relatively new major language/runtime release, it may have some incompatibilities with large applications like phpBB. Please let me know if you notice any strange behavi...

Re: How to play mods?
Welcome to the PCKF! You are right that play.bat launches the mod. While I don't know exactly what is necessary for the drag-and-drop method to work, I suspect the problem with launching from within DOSBox is the current directory. To run something in DOSBox, you first need to "mount" the ...

Re: Everytime I open PCKF I get this
Sorry about this. An intermediate Let's Encrypt certificate expired a couple days ago. Some browsers were able to determine the updated intermediate certificate automatically, but some weren't. My server should now be explicitly providing the full updated chain on both PCKF and K:M. Please let me kn...

Re: Marooned on Mars - Galaxy Mod
Hmm, I haven't used D-Fend Reloaded, but if it's a DOSBox frontend, you might be able to change the screenshot hotkey in the DOSBox keymapper (Ctrl+F1 in raw DOSBox). You could also change the Jump button's key in the game's Configuration section, though that might make playing more difficult. At th...

Re: Marooned on Mars - Galaxy Mod
Hmm, that should be all the files you need. (I just downloaded the newest version of the mod and it seems the extraneous subfolder has been removed, so you're not missing anything.) Running play.bat should do the job of making sure all patches are applied. The amount of options for raw DOSBox can be...

Re: Marooned on Mars - Galaxy Mod
You need to add the Keen 5 executable (KEEN5E.EXE) into this mod's folder, yes. But running that original Keen 5 executable will not apply all the necessary modifications, so you need to run play.bat to run the game. The technical details are that this batch file invokes the patching tool CKPatch , ...

Re: Marooned on Mars - Galaxy Mod
Welcome to the PCKF! Since this is a modification of a Commander Keen game, and the Commander Keen games are DOS programs, this also must be run under DOS. Most people play in the DOSBox emulator. First, though, make sure to copy in KEEN5E.EXE from a copy of Keen 5, which is not free software and is...

I happen to be working (very, very slowly) on a simple level pack and this utility looks like exactly what I need to do the patches, thanks!

If it's actually you, I can grant that. Unfortunately the automated password reset email system is frequently broken and verification has to be done manually. Please email [my username] at keenmodding.org from the email account used to register your old account and I'll send you a new password. If y...

Welcome to the PCKF, monochameleon! It's great to see someone new producing Keen content. :) Sorry I didn't see and approve your post in time for the stream. (This review requirement for new users' posts cuts down on what would otherwise be an avalanche of spam, unfortunately.) From now on the syste...

By Grandy02's suggestion I moved all the voting threads into a new temporary forum. Hopefully I configured the subforum permissions correctly - please let me know if something is broken.

The original post was edited after being approved, which caused it to vanish back into the pending-approval state. Welcome to the PCKF, Trevor_trev! Your account is fully activated now, so weird things like that won't happen again.

Re: [v2.11.3] Abiathar: The superior Keen Galaxy editor
I've started graduate school! Unfortunately that means I've been extra MIA here. I'll try to make more of an effort to check in periodically and see what's going on. Nisaba requested a feature and K1n9_Duk3 brought some issues to my attention, so I have some changes to release. UPDATE v2.11.3: more ...

Re: The PCKF skin before the migration
Thanks everyone for reminding me of this. People are discussing new themes in another thread , but in the meantime I went through and just changed a bunch of CSS colors to get a green-and-yellow theme reminiscent of the phpBB 2 forum. (While I was at it I finally fixed admins' and mods' names being ...
