Re: Camoto Windows version

I just looked at this again for the web-based version of Camoto I am working on, and I managed to work out what the problem was. It wasn't actually due to the RLE decompressor after all, but rather a mistake in the reverse engineering of the file format. It was thought that the game added an extra b...

Re: Users with broken avatars

I had set it to force HTTP to HTTPS for k1n9duk3.shikadi.net but I've just switched that off, so now you should be able to access it via either protocol. It would probably be better to host the avatars on the forum in many ways, because at the moment any time someone visits a topic I can see their I...

Re: Users with broken avatars

No worries. It looks like CloudFront isn't as bad as I expected so I've set it up for https://k1n9duk3.shikadi.net as a trial. Does this work properly for everyone? If K1n9_Duk3 is around, the HTTPS URL for your avatar should now work (just view the old URL and reload it, and it will push you to HTT...

Re: Users with broken avatars

The server move shouldn't have broken any avatars - all the old URLs are either still available or forwarding to their replacements, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. It is true that the lack of HTTPS would be causing problems as everything is moving in that direction. The new K...

KeenWiki on a new server

Hi all, Just a heads up after a two year hiatus I have finally finished moving the KeenWiki over to a new server. If you notice any problems please let me know. All the old links should continue to work and will just quietly forward you on to the new server, but from now on you should use links star...

Re: AUR Support for Arch users

This a problem I have to tackle with Git. We have been moving too much around over the years. There is a way to hoover a bit the repository. Not sure yet how. If everything fails we create open a new one. I think it is good to preserve the history, and I did some investigation and it looks like it'...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki

@Nisaba: Haha thanks, I've managed to focus on the KeenWiki for a couple of days now instead of doing other things so I've been able to make some progress with cleaning up some of the things that have bugged me for a long time. I'm a big fan of the automated lists, because it means that if you come ...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki

FYI I have added some documentation about how to add a new mod to the wiki. I hope it will also be useful for the other regular contributors to explain what I have done with the new templates and how they can be used.

Re: AUR Support for Arch users

Thanks for this, I was able to install it, although it did a full git clone rather than a shallow one (--depth 1) so it took a long time to download thanks to my slow Internet connection. I noticed that the compile paths (pkg and src) seem to be hard-coded into the binary which is not so useful afte...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki

Be careful Spleen, if you do that potato people might think you're a bit weird. Updating the mod status would be a great place to start. My personal opinion is that a mod should be Alpha if it's buggy, Beta if it only has a few levels or graphical changes but looks like it should have more, and Aban...

Re: Semantic KeenWiki

Yes as much as I love Potato, I've changed it to Yes, No and Some.

I'll have to update those #ask queries to use Yes/No instead of true/false.

Re: Planet Of Agony (Keen 1 mod)

I also agree with this. It's all about risk for the player. As a level becomes larger, the risk increases that you'll lose more and more work if you die and have to return to the start. Duke Nukem II (among others) addressed this by having checkpoints, so if you die you don't have to go all the way ...

Tantalus Ray spam

I don't normally pass along spam, but I get a few occasional messages from content on the KeenWiki and thought this one was a little amusing: From: Janet Rogers <janet@your-rv-lifestyle.email> To: malvineous Subject: Re: Research on Things on Do in France Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2017 12:35:49 -0800 Just wa...

Semantic KeenWiki

As mentioned in the other thread, I have been planning to install Semantic MediaWiki on the KeenWiki to provide more functionality and also make future upgrades easier. This has now been done, and I've updated the pictorial mod lists to use the new functions. This has revealed some inconsistencies i...
