Well I couldn't put a nice pretty coloured box around my signature because that can't be done with BBCode, but given the chaos that HTML sigs could bring I think it's a small price to pay.

HTML backups would be neat. They keep the original atmosphere in tact (though they still rely on dynamically-linked images that are liable to vanish in years to come). If you used that background image you'd want the forum colour scheme to also be red and purple, but I think you'd need to change the text colour up the top to make it a bit more readable (maybe a black background behind it or something.)

When you upload an avatar it already says it must be no larger than 80x80 and < 6kB. I think it would be a good idea to enforce that or at least remove the warning if it's not enforced.
