Re: Snow
There's a certain connection, yes. When I was a kid it seems it was more often winter than it was summer. About all my memories of playing Keen happen in winter. I felt the same about those snow levels, Benvolio. Not sure if you've played IceKeen, but it's a snow themed level pack for Keen 1 I made ...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)
With my past mods I've just built without planning -- and without too much thinking. I might've had an idea for a small part of the level, like a puzzle of some kind, but that's it, after that one idea everything else in a level was improvisation. With the previous mod I was more or less the same bu...

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)
I played them all again yesterday. So very good. The item placement is close to perfection. I'm trying to learn a thing or two from these levels.
Quillax: Do you sketch/plan the levels beforehand or simply invent as you go? I'm interested in people's methods.

Re: Coming summer 2018: Keen Modding Live!
Happy Keen Day. It's an interesting project indeed, good to hear it's been progressing. I think the odds are good for a collaboration level pack or mod using it.

Re: The Sunnylands (K4 levelpack)
Dude, these levels are incredible. I encourage everyone to try this, this is one of the best Galaxy level sets I've played. I thought I'd play a few levels now and the rest later but I ended up playing them all (except for the secret level or what I assume is one -- didn't find my way there on the f...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
Yes, I know. :) I meant simple lines with one statement on each, in a language like this FreeBasic. Edit: But it's also somewhat valid measure because most people, in most mainstream languages, don't code like: while(a){ stuff(a); } while(a){ stuff(a); } while(a){ stuff(a); } while(a){ stuff(a); } w...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
I got thinking that I might try to implement a very simple version of what I have in mind just to so see if I can do it. If I do it, I'll release the source and it can be used for or by other projects. My engine won't have music or sounds because I don't care, nor will it have advanced anything. I a...

Re: Project: A new game for DOS. Want to help?
I'm of two minds here. On one hand, like said by others, I find it a good idea to bring something new and well-made to the DOS platform. But on the other, I'm instantly thinking like Mobiethian: why isn't it Keen? :dopekeen And from that, I get to my usual lines of thinking: if I'm going to use my t...

Re: Why does this game look like Keen?
I was curious enough and found the required energy to do the one minute sprite edit. I started normal version and ran against a wall and took a screenshot. Then I shaved off a pixel from the collision box width, imported the edited running frames, and ran against the same wall, took a screen. Zoomin...

Re: Planet Of Agony (Keen 1 mod)
Thanks a lot for persisting. :) Your gameplay videos have been quite valuable & instructive to me (and the occasional scream and "are you kidding me?!" totally crack me up :lol). Yes, in hindsight it looks like I overestimated the general playing skills. The teleporter level is too dif...

Re: Why does this game look like Keen?
That's very fascinating, thank you. Clearly I was out of my depth here. :helmet Glad to have more knowledge of the engine! It seems it's something I've just not noticed properly. Hmm, what about this test case: Keen sprite has a collision block of x pixels wide. x is an even number. Then the collisi...

Re: Why does this game look like Keen?
Honestly, I don't understand how you can find any similarities whatsoever in these games - other than that you can jump and shoot in them. :) Also, I'm surprised you didn't know this game already, I thought it was quite a famous platformer. (I might be wrong about that though.) Having played this an...

Re: Anyone interested in beta-testing my mod?
Just stopping to say that I'm looking forward to playing this one, and curious to see how your level design is in the Galaxy engine. As I've said before, I love the level design in your latest Keen 1 mod - the flow is just great for speedrunning.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]
Maybe, maybe the third movie will explain this in a way that makes sense and thematically justifies ... Midi-chlorians, dude. :mort While it was great to see Yoda, I agree that his behaviour seemed a little out of character. It made me feel he was addressing the 6-year old Anakin instead, not the h...
