Commander Keen on XBLA
Commander Keen on XBLA
No, this is just a wish thread, nothing more. I'm sorry if i excited anyone
But, it seems like many classic titles get HD remakes these days.
Latest one i saw was Earthworm Jim for example.
Commander Keen HD on XBLA. Anyone like the looks of that?

Well, it wasn't a matter of 'if it's possible' or not. I agree that it's very unlikely, but this thread is more about what such HD remake could look like and if it's a good idea to begin with. Some purists probably want it on the PC more than anything else for example

Well, I too think it's not likely .
But I imagined the perfect HD remake to be a combination of Bionic Commando Rearmed and Monkey Island SE. The first one is just the best example of an excellent modern take of a classic platform game (which, btw is going to have a sequel!). So Keen would have HD graphics, modern take of it's songs, improved sounds, multiplayer, support new peripheral, adds some new mini games, small level additions and changes etc. But in the end, at its core, the game would be with the same good old gameplay and will feel keenish. The second one adds the addition to switch between the HD graphics and the old ones at any time!
For this purpose, I've made something up:

Haha, yeah. Keen HD - Now with extra large pixels!
So, would Keen 1/2/3 do for a HD remake just as much as 4/5/6?
Somehow i can only think of the later games for a remake, the first three are just too oldskool i think. And i like the latest three better

Re: Commander Keen on XBLA
The problem is, even if ID software wanted to release Commander Keen on XBLA, which they don't, they don't have the source code to put Commander Keen on any other platform.DSL wrote:No, this is just a wish thread, nothing more. I'm sorry if i excited anyone

And besides, you don't need HD graphics to put an older game on XBLA. You should look at the Doom and Doom 2 ports released. Low-rez.
Slight topic necro...
Re: Commander Keen on XBLA
First of all, I read an interview with John Carmack in which he said that he might be doing a Commander Keen on the iPhone. And by the way, I remember reading something about John Romero actually having the scource code to Keen, but not being allowed to release it.Galaxieretter wrote:The problem is, even if ID software wanted to release Commander Keen on XBLA, which they don't, they don't have the source code to put Commander Keen on any other platform.

Why doesn't he just anonymously leak it?K1n9_Duk3 wrote:And by the way, I remember reading something about John Romero actually having the scource code to Keen, but not being allowed to release it.

If he's the only one outside of ID then it'd be kinda obvious.....Deltamatic wrote:Why doesn't he just anonymously leak it?K1n9_Duk3 wrote:And by the way, I remember reading something about John Romero actually having the scource code to Keen, but not being allowed to release it.
Also, KEEN HD IS BLASPHEMY! Big pixels in vector as was suggested at the most.
