Commander Keen in The Simpsons!

Post by DHeadshot »

OK, not really, but the music in S21E7 sounds like Oasis from Keen 4. Here's a clip I filmed: http://h.imagehost.org/secure/0526/simpsons_oasis.wmv
Thoughts?

It's really into 21 seasons? :eek :bloody :sick

The riff is an uncanny resemblance to slug village or wherever. It sounds like a remix even. Is Matt a keen fan? :) Don't mark it off as a coincidence because I know he's into some obscure awesome stuff, like Bone comics and references to Mayan mythology 8)

edit: checked the IMF soundtrack cuz I just had to after hearing this, and the track is indeed called oasis :dopefish

I'm sure that's existing music. The reverse may even be true and Keen's music was inspired by this...
like Bone comics
I now know of two more people who have at least heard of Bone! Cool.

I just saw yellow flowers growing among green grass. Must be nature's reference to Keen :O

This is probably a reference, as you know, EVERYTHING has been referenced by the Simpsons.

I have a definite, though possibly imagined memory of seeing a Keen reference in the Simpsons. This is not it, but it makes me wonder.

It has a somewhat strong resemblance to 'Oasis.' If it IS in fact, a reference, why would he wait so long?

Maybe he just discovered Keen, and maybe... maybe he's browsing these forums right now in disguise!!! :O

Keep in mind that Matt Groening doesnt write and direct all the shows.

And another thing, Alf Clausen does the music for the show. It could possibly be Alf was/is a Keen fan?

it's almost a remix.....

If it is a reference, it's the most subtle one in the Simpsons for a long time. All the times Tintin came up in the last two seasons (crab with the golden claws and Haddock and Tintin crying at a table in France).

I don't watch it that often anymore - the new series airs at a bad time for me as I'm usually busy at 7:30 mondays/tuesdays/wednesdays/thursdays! (people in Australia will understand my day range there. I miss when they used to put them up on a Friday night - THAT was a good time)

Is it possible Bobby Prince copied the Keen song from another source, like he did with ZZTOP.IMF in Cosmo? We could be hearing the song that inspired the IMF.

Cool. I've actually seen this and instantly thought about Keen, but I forgot all about it after the episode was over. Either it's a Keen reference, or then, as LL said, there's some old song that was done before Keen 4 and inspired it.

Hmm, there's that old 314/315 reference dropped by Wiggum in some episode. Perhaps there's a fan in the production crew somewhere :disguised

Now we only have Dopefish left. I don't think that three-eyed fish counts though.
