WANTED: Keen Previews
WANTED: Keen Previews
While I was creating the help texts for Aliens Ate My Little Sister, I thought it would be fun to include small previews to all the other official episodes of Commander Keen in the style of the previews for Keen 5 & 6 that are included in later versions of Keen 4 & 5.
I'm focussing on programming now, so I'd really appreciate if one of you could create those previews. Heck, I might even include previews to other fangames, if you provide texts and preview images for them!
I've already got previews for
- Keen 4
- Keen 5
- Keen 6
I'm looking for images for
- Keen 1
- Keen 2
- Keen 3
- Keen Dreams
They should have the same sort of shadow that the original previews for Keen 5 and 6 had and the background should be either transparent or dark red.

Does anyone know the font they're using in the above screenshots?

YES! That's exactly what I had in mind. The screenshots are missing the 1-pixel-black-outline, though.Lumpytoast wrote:You mean like this?

There are many ways to do the text. You can take screenshots of some Keen text pages and copy the letters you need. Or you can use modkeen to extract the data (including the font sprites) and copy the letters from the font sprites. Or you could use one of the Keen TTFs I created for KEENGINE (they're in the zip file containing the source code).wiivn wrote:Lumpytoast what font did you use to make the text?

@Lumpytoast: Please consider uploading images in PNG format next time. Downloading a 24 bit BMP isn't much fun on a dialup connection.

That's not a big deal. I'll remove the text anyway, and put it into the text file instead. This way, you can make translations without having to edit the image.Grimson wrote:Remove the word "Keen" and it will sound more like how the official would.
And thanks go to wiivn for another fine preview!

When people describe PNG as 8-bit, they mean 8 bits per channel. There are 3 channels, so PNG is 24-bit anyway (it's just compressed). Same with JPEG and TIF (theough TIFF is 16 bits per channel and is used in photography). GIF is 8 bits overall and see how low-quality that is!
