I was always convinced it was a beehive, and not a pit. I'm still not sure that's what it is.
I'm sure it's all an optical illusion; because of the shading the picture can be interpreted in two different ways.
Wow look at me I'm lurking

Today was the first day I saw that as a pit.

That's about 15-14 years of thinking it was a dome, although I can still see the dome.

OMG I always thought it was a wine-barrel of some sorts, or a potato! (even a beehive makes sense)
I can't believe it's a pit!

I still see the dome first, and now I've been told I then see the pit.

And right now mind=blown, I have never, not once, seen it as a pit! :eek I feel like I've been blind for the last 15 years too :helmet :P

Pretty much, always seen it as a dirt dome, yeah. And, despite playing Raptor long after first playing Keen, it keeps reminding me of the storage hut things from there.

But wow... seriously wow.....

has it got something to do with the fact that one of those lines in the middle moves over to the left slightly, lending the image to be interpreted that way? If it had been straight then the imagined curve might have been lessened.[/list]

Wow, everything you all have brought up here, I've always seen them as what they were meant to be. Probably because I started playing when I was 20 :o
But srsly, how the fucl do you get an owl out of a slug? I seriously thought you were all joking.

It's not keen, but this is my most memorable childhood misinterpretation of my imagination:

Please, excuse the horrible resolution.
You know the shading in the cave entrance to Giygas's Lair? I thought it was a grinning goblin and it really creeped me out.

I tought they were DOGS. They're slugs? :bloody
And the vorticons... I would NEVER discover that they are some kind of dogs if I don't go to the keenwiki.

(Welcome iKaus! Nice to see you posting :))
This is an amazing array of misinterpretations! Really does prove that little kids see the world differently.

I never understood quite what the Jawbreakers were until more recently. I didn't have them when I was a kid.... I don't think I've EVER had one actually!

Do you mean the bounders? Can't think of anything else that more closely resembles a jawbreaker. But I think its supposded to be more like a sentient dodgeball.

Gobstopper = Jawbreaker.

Besides, they are larger than Keen's head, even with his brother's helmet on.

The items in the Keen games (and possibly any Apogee or ID game from that era) are grossly disproportionate to the main character's body, and I'm pretty sure Keen would throw up or die after the first couple food items are collected.

I suffer from really bad OCD, so sometimes it makes me physically ill to collect any treats in Commander Keen. :lol
