They wanted it to look alien, and then based the rest of SGA off of that.
It's also probably why those four letters are a lot more similar to the latin alphabet than most of the other SGA letters.

Same here! It looks amazing, never thought that it could be written this way. Looks like it could be some language from Earth itself (well, technically all of it is 8)).
