Well look at it this way. Based on their marketing strategy, Keen 1 and 4 were used to attract a market. The market never saw anything other than a couple screenshots before actually getting the other games. So it makes sense that more time and energy was poored into those games than the others. Now whether that led to better quality is a matter of personal preference. But since Keen 1 and 4 were designed to make people like them, while 2,3,5 and 6 were designed more for the purpose of making a living, it shouldn't be surprising that lots of people like them.

I really liked Keen 1, but my favourite is easily Keen 6.
Basically, I just really like the design of Keen 6, I love the levels, the monsters and the variety. It's just beautiful to look at, and it screams "retro futurism".
I don't know why Keen 4 is so popular, I found it quite repetitive in comparison to 1 and 6, and 5 had better action. I also somehow didn't like the style where trees in the background have faces... and the way I currently remember it, all enemies were either snails or balls. (And I hated those frog-flies!)
Anyway, I don't want to bash the game, all in all I enjoyed it very much as well, but I'm surprised to see it as the winner of this poll.

Keen 5...
Oh yessss..... For some reason, CK5 was THE game for me. CK1 at the time seemed too primitive (even though I don't have the same reservations now.) and CK4 scared me. (I had a real tough time playing it when I was a kid. I never rescued all of the Council Members.)
Of course, CK5 was fun for me because I cheated on it. (I didn't care, cause I had a major game-playing deficit at the time and didn't care really about spoilers.)
Also, I actually EARNED CK5 from making an A in one of my classes in 5th grade (much like I had earned the rest of Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure in 2000 in 4th grade. )

TL;DR: All of the things that amazed me about Keen4.

I voted Keen Dreams, even though I might actually like Keen 4 better.
(It's certainly a more solid game)
I just love the atmosphere of Keen Dreams, and also the fact that it doesn't need a pogostick or raygun to still be Keenish.
I wish they made more little obscure Keen games like that.

Why does Keen 2 get no love? Easily the best of the Vorticon trilogy...
I'd like to get a Futurama mod going. Here's what I've got so far:

Keen2 is excellent... however, many if not most players, certainly myself, would have built up years of nostalgia with Keen1, and also possibly Keens 4, 6Demo and Dreams, before purchasing the non-shareware episodes. I for one played only Keen1 for almost 2 years before even hearing of Keen4.
hence the preference for other games.
mind-you, Keen3 is in my opinion a horrible game (as in, uninspiring and not much fun)!!! it should be in last place, or ahead of GBC is it's included!
