Commander Keen 20th Anniversary
Hi all - just stumbled across this article pointing out that Commander Keen 1 was released 20 years ago today, on Dec 14th 1990.
Amazing how time flies, it seems like I was only playing it yesterday...oh wait, I was

Yeah, remembered this a minute ago... For days I was planning to buy candy and soda in a Keen fashion and play through the games, and then I just forgot it all! Now it's closing on 9 pm and I feel tired, have no candy, and I don't feel like playing anything...
But happy birthday anyway! It's indeed amazing how good these games still are, and how the 20-year old bytes have such a strong modding scene around them.

Does anyone think that this could be the new Keen day? Let's face it, March 14th already shares Pi day and Einstein's brithday with Keen day. That's not to say that we should change Keen day once someone celebrates something else on it, but it would make Keen day more unique and I'm sure Keen's IQ was already a reference for pi.
It would also not be the first game character to do this. Sonic day is practically June 23rd, the release day of Sonic 1 for the Genesis.
In any case, just a thought. Either way, Keen on everyone.

Look like the day has actually come now (even when we ignore the year of release). So lets post...and celebrate!
It has been nice with these games; Keen 1-3, Keen Dreams and Keen 4-6. And it's still nice to play any of these as before! In fact, it got to the state that people were sufficiently motivated to work on tools for the production of Keen modifications (and beforehand there were potentially a few "sample" edits done manually, without such tools). So as I see it, the spirit is not gone at all!
Congrats to everyone interested and again have a happy anniversary day,
NY

That should be impossible since he was 8 in the very first game.Lumpytoast wrote:To think he was only 6 when I started playing his games.
