Keen and DosBox Wii

Post by Toothpick »

I finally got around to getting the Homebrew Channel and DosBox Wii, and I even got Keen 4 to run on it. The problem is you apparently need a USB keyboard to play the game, something I don't have. My aim is to play Keen 4 with the Wii Classic Controller. Is there a way to make DosBox Wii work with the Classic Controller?

Presumably you can set up the mapper file to handle it as a joystick or something, but don't ask me how to do that - I can't even get DosBox Wiz to work...

The mapper file? For Keen 4 or DosBox Wii? Where can I find this mapper file?

On the DS dos emulator, there's a configuration utility (and you can always alter the config file in notepad), but without a USB keyboard I'm not sure that would help the Wii version.

DosBox versions generally have a mapper file for mapping key-strokes of the source system to those of the target system. It's how the PC versions handle different keyboards and how the ports handle the buttons of the various systems. I would assume you can fiddle with this file to link your controller to the joystick or arrow keys or something, but I don't know how to do it.

Time out. There's a DosBox port for Wii? Between that and virtual console, I might actually buy a Wii, now.

DosBox Wii runs too slow anyway. It's definitely not as smooth as it is on PC.

The DS version is better, plus it's portable! :)

Are you sure you don't have an USB keyboard? Any at all? Any old keyboard should work... If you don't have one you can get them for cheap. ;)

RoboBlue: the DOS emulator for the DS is entirely different. Won't help as DOSBox doesn't read those configuration files.

I'm pretty sure Keen 4-6 had joystick support... Have you tried that? If DOSBox on Wii behaves it might pick it up.
Wow look at me I'm lurking
