Keen 2 odd items

Post by MortimerInBlack »

For some odd reason I was inspired to play Keen 2 today, and immediately found 2 oddities:

anyway, what the heck could these things be? btw that second one has the SGA letters 'VC', but could it really be a giant tank of vorticola?

The Viking II lander actually did land on a 'rock' on Mars.

The first looks like a pipe.

The second: a stasis booth maybe? But that's way too public a place to put one. I wouldn't say it was too giant a tank of cola given the size of the cans hurr hurr, but it's possible.

Do we ever stop and think? Why is the background a diamond pattern? Those colored one-way platforms, what ARE they? What are red girders doing in a spaceship?

How can Keen breathe on Mars? Why don't Vorticons have television?

It could be a tray of Vorti Cola of some sort indeed. And the other thing, it could be just some pipes. Maybe we should ask Tom Hall about these.

The first thing is almost definitely a pipe. There's no telling what the second thing is for sure, and I honestly never thought about it.

I guess that I never really thought about the environment of the second game because it was just mechanical. The first game, however, had a lot of weird-looking tiles. Like those yellow tubes. They always looked like some kind of old, discarded foam pieces to me.

Ah, I think you're onto something there.

I'd rather go with a futuristic keg for the vorticola. Or it's a container for the dehydrized extract.

I do believe some type of wood was still in use at that time for the manufacturing of kegs.

The Vorticons don't use wood. They also use only screw top corks for their wine bottles.

exactly what Levellass said. Additonally "I do believe some type of wood was still in use at that time for the manufacturing of kegs." implies that Keen plays at a different time than realtime, which it doesn't. It's different cultures.
