Keen4c is the CGA version, so I would've thought that suffix would apply to Keen 6 too, unless the person who cracked it didn't think much about the name. Is it possible the quiz simply wasn't included in the CGA version?

Huh... Mine's just keen6.exe and doesn't have the check
Possibly renamed I'm guessing

That depends, is its file size about 102KB?
On analyzing Keen6C appears to be a version of Keen 6 v1.0. It has a two byte difference from it in fact at $90F4 in the unpacked executable. This skips the creature check code.
Mystery solved!

Ah yes it is, so which type is it?
Also if I wanted to re-enable the check, what would I do?

It's a copy of version 1.4. To re-enable the check you'd need to open the file in a hex editor, find the change and reverse it. But it's easier just to get a copy of v1.4 fresh, they're floating around everywhere.

Fleex, shhhhh! Keep it down! PM those links, never link publicly.
MoffD, make sure you make a backup before doing what LL suggested.

Any particular reason why that version of Keen 6 only ever asks me for the name of a Fleex, or is that merely how it's designed?

The question depends on what the time is. If you tried it a number of times within a short timespan, you'd get the same creature every time. If you tried again after multiple hours, you'd get something else.
