"SUBSET!" in Keen 4 world map
"SUBSET!" in Keen 4 world map
While testing some tweaks to Abiathar's tile property overlay, I discovered something interesting in the Keen 4 world map. All modders know that the Miragia "phases" are stored down in the lower left, but the area to the right of that always looked empty. There, in invisible blocking tiles, is written the text "SUBSET!", exclamation point in original. The tile used is 06D4, which is used all over the world map.
You can verify this by using Abiathar's tile property overlay on the packaged Keen 4 resources, or on the originals if you're a conspiracy theorist.

I've noticed that too, but I've just assumed it was something the developers put there to indicate that the area was below (sub) the rest of the world map. Perhaps the invisible blocking tiles were visible while the world map was made, and the developers just did that to mark off an area. It's neat, but I don't think it means much.
Armageddon Begins Again. The Alphamatic has arrived.

I recall encountering that as well. Gridlock's explanation makes sense.
Even though this fact is not as important nowadays (if ever), maybe an individual from the original dev team has a hint. Haven't send a message on my own, though.

I've known about that for a long time. I think I found out about it in the old patching index. I don't see how any modder can get along without:

Commander Keen in... Canteloupe Quest!
I did actually ask Mr Hall about this some time ago. As far as he can remember (and he assured me he could be totally wrong.) it was just to indicate a subset of tiles went there; when editing maps the invisible tiles... well weren't and could be used for in-level notes to people. (Apparently often rather shocking ones too.)
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

Ahh of course. I keep forgetting that save/load bypasses the horizontal and vertical screen blocksRoboBlue wrote:You can actually see it in-game by following these steps:
1.) Activate No Clipping
2.) Go below the visible map area
3.) Save
4.) Load
5.) Use F-10 Y
