Yep. :) Mort's warping your minds again. :mort I was aware of this however, figuring this thing out some time ago when I tried to remember where TUIT was actually mentioned in the games.
Also, I think TUIT's mentioned in great deal of sources since 1992, Keen fans have known about it long before ALBACK and Tom's site, I think. Likely from interviews, answers to the questions "where is the next Keen gargit?", and mails to Tom, and such. But without a doubt TUIT is a canon name. :) (Needless to say, of course.)

In one of the game's endings (possibly Keen 5...? Can't remember...) doesn't it have a picture of a desk and next to the desk is Mortimer McMire's helmet?

Or was this already addressed and I've forgotten? (I've only played through Keen 6 twice...)

That was Keen 5, which had the letter and helmet.

On IGN, when commenting the article someone to my surprise actually said something to the lines of: "Commander Keen 7 should be on there" and then someone else referenced my post and agreed that TUIT should've been on the list.

So at least we know that there are some Keeners, out in that big, distant internet....

yeah...altho it could just be the ones on here :p altho technically keen 6 is keen 7, if you count keen dreams, so keen 7 would be keen 8 :crazy
