Commander Keen in: No Sense of Perspective

Post by Deltamatic »

I was toying around in the Armageddon Machine, and look what came my way:
Image
I had been pogoing around the area, and caught the pole mid-jump.
Has this happened to anybody else? Or have I discovered a new bug?

I forgot about this one!

Yeah, I've seen it. I think that's the only place that it happens.

That's... unique. I can't seem to get it.

That's pretty neat. I can't believe I never noticed that.

And while we're discussing perspective, is it just me, or does Keen seem to be at the wrong angle when facing left?
Image
I'm no expert at perspective, but shouldn't his right side be farther back than his left, thus making his back more visible than his front? As it is, he seems to rotated towards the camera rather than facing left. Has this been brought up before, or am I crazy?

Yes, he faces towards the camera while stopped, but when running he runs in a straight line parallel to the camera lens. So he just has an odd habit of turning to one side when he's standing.

I have seen this many times. But for whatever reason I never thought much about it. I find your thread title quite amusing.

It isn't on the KeenWiki page for Keen 5 bugs, so could it be added?

I'd say it definitely warrants a mention. Want me to add it?

If you are going to add it, make sure you post the pic as well.

Yep, this has happened to me, and sometimes when I've "down-jumped" through those holes in the floor Keen has shown as foreground... :confused No idea what triggers that bug.
My newest mod - Commander Keen: Sunset: viewtopic.php?t=8568 | codename H.Y.E.N.A.

The one time I have seen this bug is at that specific pole in Regulation Control Center. Since Ceilick is currently working on his Keen 5 mod, I am sure Levelass and he can and will patch out this bug. I am sure one of them can fill us in on how that bug is possible.

Has this happened to anybody else? Or have I discovered a new bug?
I actually investigated this, it happens when Keen's foreground property is increased by 1 (To 2) instead of being SET to 1, and yes, it happens during pogoing and pole gripping. I have not yet been able to make it 'stick'

Other bugs I have found:

* In one level there is a piece of hidden candy you cannot get (It is inside a solid tile)
* On the map it is possible to appear in front of some of the Korath base tiles
* The Korath base has a 1-tile error in it.
* The arch going to the level before the Q.E.D in the map has a one tile error in it.
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

I'd like to know more about these... which level is that candy in?

On a similar note, in Keen 6's First Dome of Darkness, there's a couple points that are inaccessible, hidden in one of the blocks (I think it's the second one below the switch, with the four vivas sitting on it), that's surrounded completely by solid tiles. The area itself is hollow, but there's no entrance to it.
