How do I play modded Keen's?

Post by RetroKittycat »

I have Keen 7,
http://www.shikadi.net/keenwiki/The_Keys_of_Krodacia

the newest version of DOSBox
and Windows 7

But when I try to play KEEN4E.EXE it says "loading" forever
If I try CK4PATCH.EXE it really does nothing :/

Is there a special way to play them?

To play Keen mods, you need to run the batch files included with them, not the original Keen executables.

So for Keen 7, you run Keen7.bat in dosbox.

Have fun :)

Yes, that is right. Ceilick single-handedly made every last keen mod ever made. All those hundreds of mods. He is a human modding machine :dopekeen

Lets be a little more respectful, VBB. RetroKittycat is obviously only referring to Keen 7 and the rest of the unofficial TUIT.

And yeah, Keen 7 and 8 are by me, Keen 9 with Mink and Tulip. Lots of other mods to check out on the Keen wiki when you've finished with these, especially don't miss Xky Rauh's Keen X and the rest of his series.

Highly recommended Galaxy mods:
Keen 7: The Keys of Krodacia
Keen 8: Dead in the Desert
Keen 9: Battle of the Brains
Keen 9.5: The Eight Accumulators
Mink's Puzzle Pack
Keen Asylum
Aliens Ate My Babysitter... Again

Highly Recommended Vorticon Mods
Yorphius II
Episode Smile
A New Dope
Fall Up
Clouds Unseen
Death to the Vorticons trilogy
Trapped Keen
Decree of the Skree trilogy
Oracle Janitor trilogy
The Perilous Pursuit
Story Land
Episode X
Episode Y
Episode Z
Episode Null
Episode Dash
Lego Keen
Onward: Silcar series

Now, a majority of these games are most likely too difficult for a beginning Keener, but they are all fun games nonetheless. There are other mods that are worth checking out that I did not list. It is up to you.

haha yehh I was only referring to the TUIT series :P

And thanks for the lists! I'll be sure to check the KeenWiki too ^^

And I think I've had enough experience of the games to try harder ones ^^ My dad sat me in front of Commander Keen only a couple months old :O *has got the home video to prove it* XD
I honestly think those games are VERY easy C: Which are the harder ones?

If you think you can handle it, try Keen Smile...

Syllypryde, thanks for that list! I was about to ask on a new thread, what mods are recommended.

I just finished Keens 7-9 and found them all to be excellent and true to the saga.

If anyone knows of any more mods that are equally (or close to as) great as the ones mentioned, speak now or... just, speak now please :o

I would definitely add Keen Q, Bananasauros and the XkyKeen trilogy (especially Keen Null, possibly my favorite mod of all time.) I'll also recommend Shmaynoria even though Paramultart will probably give me a big slap for bringing it up. :)

Thanks StupidBunny. Anyone know where I can download Bananasauros? The link on Keen Wiki doesn't seem to work.

VBB seems to have deleted the older versions. Get the newest one here: http://www.zero1productions.com/billy/v ... os1.21.rar (as a side-note, the wiki has now been fixed)
