I thought Keen5 executable isn't included for copyright reasons.

You have to provide your own copy of the executable file.

that exe file is the main file needed to play keen 5.

Keen 7 is a mod of keen 4. It has the exe file of keen 4 because keen 4 is a free shareware game.
Keen 8 is a mod of keen 6. I think it has the exe file of the keen 6 demo, as that demo is a shareware game.

But keen 5 was not a free game so it's not included in the keen 9 mod files.

RetroKittycat, simply copy-paste keen5.exe into the Keen 9 folder. Then try playing it.

PS. any time you download a mod, check the "readme" file to know what files may be missing.

Once the keen5e.exe file is copied to your keen9 directory, drag the keen9.bat file to Dosbox to play the game.

OKay, put keen 9 into a new folder on the C Drive. So in the C directory you have a Keen9 folder.

Start dos box and follow these commands...
Type in...
mount c c:keen9 - press enter
Type in...
c: - press enter
Type in...
keen9 - press enter

What happens when you do that?

I really can't be stuffed typing in commands every time I play a keen game so I just drag the .bat file onto a dosbox shortcut. :p

That is what I do as well. It is a lot quicker and more simple.

Shouldn't it be Keen5e.exe?
Keening_Product was defeated before the game.
