Tom Hall, have you ever considered making an unofficial Keen game? (like a fangame...except you're more than a fan, haha)

Or even modding an existing Keen game?

Keen stuff

Post by TomHallKeen »

It would be tough to make an unofficial one myself -- the Kickstarter is my version of that!

BTW -- Dorts looked SORTA like Far Side cows, but with legs and like dachshunds. Short and stubby. And snouts kinda halfway to dachshunds too.

Looked at 'em a bit, need to give 'em a proper play -- been killling myself on game deadlines for so long -- my game stack is INSANE. I literally get 15 minutes on most games. :/

Maybe I should get a normal job so I can play more!

Yes, thank you so much for keeping up with our mudslide of questions! haha

We've got it better than the Mario fans! Since when has Shigeru Miyamoto talked with Mario fans, in a casual setting?

Tom, I can't say how amazing it is to see you on these forums. I think today is just about proof that miracles can happen. I just got back from an amazing retreat today, and friends earlier had gotten into the topic of DosBox games and they even brought up Commander Keen. It blew my mind because I'd never even told them about my interests in those games or knew that they had heard of them. To hear that earlier today and then come home and see that The Tom Hall announced this, well... it's pretty damn amazing. :pogo

I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute financially, but I wish you the best of luck and fully support you. I hope you stay around here for a while!

Offtopic, I'd be honored to show you a preview video of a massive Keen 4 mod I've been working on for nearly 3 years now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwsm5-kRYbY

If you have a sketch, I can mod them. (Heck, we know enough about modding to add them into their original target game.)

Ah one more question...

Was this level ever made? Could you tell us more about it conceptually even if it has not been made?

Do we get the editor when we back the project or do we still have to wait for it?

I'd like to get my hands on the editor to play around a bit with it :)

Oh... I'm a backer now! Good luck!

Wow! Hi Tom!

First, I have to say congrats on your new Kickstarter project. That looks awesome! Sure could have used that a few years ago!

Second, I want to thank you for Commander Keen! I LOVE those games, and still play them via dosbox. I enjoy them so much, and they inspired me to write my own games. I'm an indie developer, and I've been making my own series of secret agent themed platformers - the way they look and play was heavily influenced by Commander Keen!

I know you're a busy guy, but if you are interested, you can find my games at http://www.dirkdashing.com - I'd be really honored to have the great Tom Hall stop by to take a quick look.

Thanks again for Keen, and for taking the time to hang out with your fans in this forum. You're a real class act, man.
