Commander Keen in ... "Keen Meets the Meats"
So far it's quite fun making art for this project, also it's my first attempt ever on making Keen platforms (and not only enemies or pickups). So far guys seem to like my work and ideas, so it looks promicing Hope at least some of it will get into the final version, heh
The only problem - I seem to be a bit terrified with an amount of work needed to make all those platforms slope vatiants. Hope I can get some help from others who have more "sloped" experience.
This Keen Dreams game seem to have a relatively small tileset that seems quite limiting for too many new ideas.

The question is how many slopes you need. For example a factory tileset may work solely with steps. Also look to Biomenace which makes almost no use of sloped tiles at all, you'd hardly notice until you actually come to a rare slope.
If there are any 'holes' that need patching I can help out, but I fear to tread on others work, less I mess it.

What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.
Well, I meant not more slopes that original Keen Dreams had....how much sloped platform types it had BTW?
I think 1 sloped variant is enough for most platforms...and some indeed might not need slopes at all.
I played ROTT many years before I noticed it's walls are only 90 degrees Good mapping
So...look at the art and tell me which variants need slopes - and how many (not more than 2 slope angles in any case).
Slopes do take alot of tileset space, so I think though we might need slopes for some - in any case 1 slope angle can be enouph.
This way we can use more platform types and variants.

If only one slope is required then a 22.5 degree one is probably preferable; 45 degree is nearly steps. I was thinking 2 slope variants for the meat platform and one for the bone; since there are three variants of it I'm working to see if I can compact them a bit via foreground and background tricks. (So far, so good.)

Will be quite an art challenge to make slope for bone platform.Levellass wrote:I was thinking 2 slope variants for the meat platform and one for the bone
For it's slope I think we should use the original simpler/flatter variant as a base, not the new one. Just need to make sure it's tilable. Original flat version had some tilability "glitches" I tried to fix yesterday, but failed to fix completely.
Well, I can make more "phases" of bone platform if needed. But indeed I think 3 is more that enough.since there are three variants of it I'm working to see if I can compact them a bit
Fully trust you to do all the tricks possiblevia foreground and background tricks. (So far, so good.)
