Looking really sweet! That latest image has two problems with the hand: too far from the body, and the hand is the wrong proportions. It's a tough spot due to the size and location of the disc (which is excellent and balances the title's imagery).

Below is a quick sketch of something that might work. Aside from hand positioning, I slightly altered face direction and shading, lightened up the eyes borders, changed to hair color (mostly just to see how it'd look), and threw on a very rough mouth :P

Why is the more distant eye bigger?

Wow that's funny. I didn't expect to see all this this morning. I see what you mean though. I thought about just removing the left hand and redrawing the right hand a bit. I should tilt the disk at least a bit though. I removed the wrist computer in favor of making the menu screen a hologram that comes out of the disc, so that's why that's not in there. Suppose I could just redraw the whole guy instead of modifying an old title screen. Not like I haven't done that before.

Still lots of work down the road for this. But my motivation is still high to keep going with it.

I'm actually tempted to use my 16 month old son as a model. He should have the right body dimensions and I can have him hold my Tron disc I made with paper mache. Getting him to pose will be a challenge, but still fun.

Starting the ids on modding early I see.

The problem there is that Keen has very inhuman, cartoonish features, and anything you trace from your son would require some intensive revision and editing.

I'm not knocking the idea of using a reference, simply for the purpose of getting angles and dimensions correct, but you might have more luck simply drawing a wireframe head on paper or even using a 3D model in order to really nail Keen's minimalist yet unique form. It's a hard one to tackle.

(I'm assuming you're going for "Keenishness", hence using the original Goodbye Galaxy Keen graphic in the first place...)

Best of luck with whatever method you decide to use. :)

Was wanting more of the body outline and the hands to trace out. Can easily change the face on it.
Found it's very hard to get a 17 month old to pose. He keep holding the disc in the crook of his arm like he's holding a bag.
At least I have an 8 year old I could try as well. Maybe a better match, if she's not too skinny.

As far as the rest of the art goes. The angled floor tiles seem to take a lot of work.

My hand posed for me plenty of times for weapon frames for Wolf3D or Doom.

HOW DID YOU FIND MY PRIVATE COLLECTION?

You need to keep it out of your dropbox public folder.
