Good news / bad news

First the good one: I've got a new job :)
The bad one: In the next 1 1/2 years I won't have time to finish my new Keen5 mod :(

But i wanted to share the early alpha version of this game. It includes a new player design one level and three enemies.

Image
Story (so far):
Commander Keen and the Vorticons weren't able to disassemble Mortimer's mind control machine. This machine is operated with an unknown radioactive energy source and none of them know how to turn it off. Lest anyone accidentally triggers a nuclear explosion when they dismantling it, they have decided to hide it. The vorticons put the machine deep under the ancient temple of Cydonia on the planet Mars.

After invading a Vorticon reserach lab Dr. Colossus discovered the secret hideout of the machine. Now he is on his way to the planet Mars to bring the mind control machine in his possession.

About the gameplay:
There are a few patches I couldn't put in this game.
The player shouldn't:
- use the pogo
- shoot up/down while jumping
- shoot while climbing on poles/ladders
But he should:
- shoot left/right while he is ducking

Some of the patches doesn't always work:
-Sometimes the enemies doesn't explode

Anyway, here's the mod:

Aw rats! That's too bad. Because what you've achieved so far looks amazing!

Surely you'll find time to work on it, even if you've got a new job, right?

Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm... Reminds me of a patch Levellass did a long time ago. Let's see.... Bah! It'll take forever to find it!

Oh, here it is:

Code: Select all

#Turn pogo into small jump
%patch $2FF7C $0091W $0089W $0003W $0000W $0000W $0032W $0000W $0000W
              $0B800B5BRL $0B8014A9RL $0B801C48RL $11A2W
%patch $2FF9A $0091W $0089W $0003W $0000W $0000W $0032W $0000W $0000W
              $0B800B5BRL $0B8014A9RL $0B801C48RL $11A2W
%patch $2FFB8 $0091W $0089W $0003W $0000W $0000W $0032W $0000W $0000W
              $0B800B5BRL $0B8014A9RL $0B801C48RL $11A2W
I don't know if that's at all helpful, but it seems to eliminate the Pogo quite nicely.

I feel a definite air of Monster Bash and Biomenace here.

I'm bummed this never got finished, it would have made for an awesome action shooter.

The mars/keen setting threw me off a bit, though.

Thanks for the great response :blush
It was also my intention to make this mod biomenace-like and my main inspiration was the Biomenace mod "Commander Keen - Crisis Earth". This is one of my favourite Keen fan games (but unfortunately it is only a demo).
I will work on this mod in my little free time and during my vacations.

I have a suggestion for where you can find time: who needs sleep?

Looks great!
I recognized that space/galaxy background from Space Quest 3. Although much of my EGA art is influenced by Mark Crowe's work (The Sierra artist, not the actor)
