BlueGasMask's version is better, IMO. Depth isn't everything... Commander Keen is supposed to be simple. What's so horrible about beady eyes? I can't quite picture it with white eyes, unless someone showed me...

I'd prefer the original drawing for a keen game, I just find it easier to think of the cartoon-ish style with keen, since so many of the other creatures were.

Allstories' latest "render" is excellent, very tasty, but agree, its style looks too detailed to be from Keen. But then again, I doubt it was his intention to use iD's style.

Agreed--somethings in between the two in terms of detail would be best, I think. Maybe the issue I find with the first pictures is that it is too big for a Keen sprite.

BlueGasMask made no mention of Chopplo's size. For all we know, he could be 40 feet tall! After all, he is big enough to eat a tree, right?

I think that's what is kind of missing, if you look at all of the characters that don't have eyes that are too small they have eye whites. And at least in Keen 4-6, Keen and other non-eye white characters have eye whites when up close, even the Vorticon ninjas' eyes bug out when you kill them.

That's I've noticed noticed anyways, I could be wrong.

Yes, but I also made a distinction between characters with eyes that are too small to tell (like Keen), and even so, when those characters are up-close they have eye whites.

Where have you seen a shelley or a gik up so close? No way to tell for sure. I'd imagine at least giks having no white in the eyes.

The one type of characters I could say didn't have eye whites, and were not too small, were the Shikadi, but then they didn't even have eye pupils, their eyes were all white.

This isn't cut-and-dry, or black and white, it's just my "general observation of Keenishness".
