"A Study of the Worp Reaction"...

Post by MortimerInBlack »

See here if u don't know what I'm talking about--the part about Tom remembering: http://www.3drealms.com/keenhistory/keenhistory3.html

Yes, one of the things that directly inspired Keen according to the man himself. A while back, I went looking online and eventually discovered it, although it was a less-than-easy search because the title is different.

The story is, "The Available Data on the Worp Reaction," by Lion Miller. It is very short (just a few pages) and so is packaged with a lot of other short stories in "50 Short Science Fiction Tales," available here: http://www.amazon.com/50-Short-Science- ... 400&sr=8-1

Let me tell you, however, that Mr. Hall basically sums up the whole story in what he said, especially the important parts. So while the price isn't all bad, you might want to think twice. (not that I regret anything :))

Other details about the story:
-the kid (Aldous Worp) is never explicitly said to have autism, nor is any other diagnosis given, but he is definitely mental.
-it reads like sorta like a scientific research paper, chronicling the kids activities and eye-witness accounts.
-the experiment is performed a few times for US Army Engineers, so ppl take it seriously (what can I say? I hate the kinds of events where the discoverer is ridiculed cuz he can't demonstrate his breakthrough because of some arbitrary reason).

I hope this further enlightens everyone's Keen Universe. :p
The Viking II lander actually did land on a 'rock' on Mars.

Interesting, I'll try to find it in library someday, or then perhaps buy it if I can find it cheap. Gotta read that one...

lol; keen never appears mental to me; he seems pretty hip actually. "No sweat, O guardian of wisdom." comes to mind.

edit: garg, and in case this was unclear, by 'mental' i mean retarded.

Ah, alright. I thought mental in the sense he's crazy and imagines all and thinks it's real. :)
