Yeah, but once you get those 7 one-ups you can't return to the level, can you?

I spent some time working on a different layout for the newsletter (using LaTeX) and this is what I came up with: http://k1n9duk3.k1.ohost.de/files/news_mockup.pdf

I tried to create the look and feel of a gaming magazine, that's why I divided the document into different sections, each starting on a new page and having a (more or less) unique color.

Tell me what you think about this style.

That is an interesting layout. Although a few aspects might be changed, that design could probably be used for future editions. However, I'll also wait to hear Ceilick's opinion. I think he will be away from the forums for the next couple days, though.

I've already started working on the July issue. As always, suggestions and opinions are welcome.

It's pretty cool, way better than the original

Although I don't like the colour scheme yet, it should be limited to yellow-green imo, like the logo. And maybe we could use the same font for the page headers as in the Keen 6 manual. (I'm pretty sure Ikaragua has it if it's not a standard font anyway.

The logo should be improved/the concept carried out further by someone who handles Photoshop better than I do, really. :o The "Keen" text should propably be replaced by "CK" since that's the real name of the newsletter.

OK, for those using portable devices etc, I've made a text-only version (converted by hand from the Document version).

Changing the colors is pretty easy. The LaTeX source look like this:

Code: Select all

\section[red]{News}

...

\section[cyan]{Articles}
...
I haven't tried to use any TrueType font in LaTeX, yet. So changing fonts could be a problem.

Glad you guys like it :) Next issue we'll have time for some better formatting and whatnot; you wouldn't believe how rushed the production of this was, especially with Gridlock gone and I leaving for vacation the morning this was due.

Any comments on the content? Things you like, don't like, want to see more of, want to see less of, etc? Also any of you old timers have page 5 of the featured TMST comic? I've managed to collect all the others, and the comic still makes sense without page 5, but it'd be nice to have it in entirety.

I miss that comic, it'd be nice to have it entirely. I also liked the little post-keen 9 story. I'm waiting for further episodes.

i kinda liked the keen comic which resembled calvin and hobbes, it was funnier, and in my opinion more interesting.
