For simplicity you'd want Keen 1, 2 or 3 (Not much difference.) Keen 4, 5 or 6 are harder to mod, and may be past your level, but do more stuff.
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

Those use the Goodbye Galaxy engine, as they're only mods of 4, 5, and 6.

Doom 2 was just a mod of Doom and it came out 1 year later. It took ID Software 20 years to make TUIT and it's just a mod?

At the bottom, you will see the word "UNOFFICIAL". In basically every source from which you may download each of these three games, it is clearly stated that they are mods of Keen 4, 5, and 6, and were developed by fans.
