On April 26th, Vinn von Vorticowsky was born. He was born smiling up at his parents. They loved him very much.

At age 1, Vinny was already attempting to walk, but he kept flopping back onto his front paws. His parents didn't know he was trying to walk, they thought it was very cute.

At age 2, Vinny finally succeeds in walking. He now moves on to trying to talk, but he only succeeds in making baby noises. His parents are surprised he's able to walk at such an early age.

At age 3, Vinny outgrows his diaper and starts wearing clothes for the first time. He finally learns to talk fully and starts reading complicated and profound books he found on his parents' shelves. His parents are surprised he learned how to talk so early. His father Vance notices his son reading his books.

At age 4, Vance takes Vinny to get an IQ test. Vinny gets every single last question right. His result....314! A day later, he officially attends elementary school.

At age 6, Vinny wonders what the other planets are like and wonders if he can go explore them some day.

At age 7, Vinny reads a superhero comic and wonders what it would like to be a hero.....later that day Vance asks his son if he wants to watch a sci-fi movie with him. Vinny agrees, and the movie inspires him to make a Megarocket!

At age 8, the crisis with The Grand Intellect happens and a mindbelt is put on him. He is too smart to fall for the belt's mindgames, but pretends to be under its influence in order to not draw any suspicions. Later that day, Commander Keen comes to his home planet and saves the day. Vinny and his parents attend the Big V award ceremony held for Keen. He really wants to go up and meet Keen, but he didn't want to risk revealing his intellect to the public, so he had to watch Keen leave. After everything that has happened, Vinny is finally inspired to become......

How did he cope with Keen, and I quote the ending, 'slaughtering' the Vorticons?

He just rationalized and convinced himself that Keen did it out of self-defense, since they WERE being mind-controlled....

That's right, everyone. Next time you play Keen 3, don't kill Vance or you could alter this entire timeline!

Yup :p

If that happens, Vinny will be in utter shock and horror, and he'll start to go down a darker path in which he basically becomes the next Mortimer....

Ok so... I have in fact got a patch that alters the ending of Keen 3 if you kill any Vorticons.

Now, it wouldn't be too hard to update this so that killing Vorticons creates a dark ending, possibly even with a different ending picture...

Oh yes, for the original patch it just changes the Vorticon King's text pointer but with a little expansion it could more drastically alter the ending sequence. Of course shooting ANY Vorticon would trigger it.

If you have killed a Vorticon you get the 'default'

Code: Select all

%patch $1C482 "'I and the other Vorticons you haven't" $0A
"slaughtered want to award you the " $0A $00
If however you have not you get

%patch $1C695 "All without a single innocent harmed," $0A
"we joyously award you the" $0A $00

Ooooo, nice! :) Does that one guy still give Keen the Holy Horns? :p

I'm also curious as to what that much darker ending may be.....

Heh, this reminds me of how as a kid, I desperately avoided killing any Vorticons, after finding out from one of the elders in the stasis fields that they're being mind-controlled. Needless to say, it made some levels very difficult, but I had a very strict conscience :o

Since then I've degraded into a heartless psychopath who just blasts through all enemies without remorse :mortlol

Well hey, your no-save Pyramid of the Forbidden speed run shows the positive effect all that hazard-avoidance had on your platforming haha
